I have not been to church in years and I was interested in checking out this new priest who surely would have a unique perspective. I left religion because of it's intolerance to real life. This rings a bell.

Re: Island industries need our support today - Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber

Thank you Linda for speaking up for Vashon Business owners. The staff at all the schools need chemical dependency training and there must be a chemical dependency counselor on staff. There was a meeting at the High School Library that I learned approximately eight students from the class of 2008 were sent to drug rehabilitation facilities. Ask the next high school grocer that brings your bags to your car if he or she thinks there is a drug problem at the High School. The drugs in the schools affect all the students, the honor roll students, the athletes, the straight kids trying to focus. Will the drinking, smoking and using come to a halt with a new building? Only staff training and education to our students and the community will help diminish the drug use. This education needs to be in the schools on a daily basis not a meeting every once in a while.

Re: Vashon voters defeat school bond measure - Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber

Is anyone else thinking about issues such as money for an experienced maintenance supervisor, making the public pool on the High School campus available year round for lessons and swim teams, chemical dependency training for the staff and students who have an increasingly alarming drug problem, a chemical dependency counselor on staff. Is the community aware of how many VHS students have been shipped away to drug rehabilitation? Does the community know that students on Vashon have used and access to heroin? Should the school also teach French and German? Is there a discussion on the students academic needs, teachers, books and subjects?
Thank you,
Mary M.
