It just seems odd that they would implicitly endorse ad-blocking while, at the exact same time, make a stand against it.

Re: Episode 520 - Cheap Textbooks! µBlock Beats AdBlock. 3 Browers For Private Browsing. Just seems foolish to talk about them when you deny anybody using them.

Re: Episode 520 - Cheap Textbooks! µBlock Beats AdBlock. 3 Browers For Private Browsing. Our content requires ad-blocking software to be disabled. Thank you for your support."

So I won't be watching the report. :\

Re: How to upgrade a Nexus to Android 4.4.3 (or 4.4.4) without losing root

Ouch, could have used this a few days ago before I updated my Nexus 5.

Re: BREAKING BAD: Who Is The Real Heisenberg?

Quick correction to an otherwise really fun article: Heisenberg did not fight the "Russians" in Munich after World War I, he fought in what was essentially a street fight between German Communists and proto-Fascists. It doesn't say much about his later politics, other than he was likely a pretty mainstream German conservative.

Re: Kit-A-Day Giveaway: Drawdio Fun Packs

Awesome stuff!

Re: Amazon Kindle Fire review roundup

I think this is a *very* good point that far too many people ignore. While iPads can certainly do more than these mid-tier tablets can do, I believe that the vast majority of iPad users don't actually do those kinds of things (at least with any regularity). Email, web browsing, video, eBooks and light gaming is what people overwhelmingly use them for, it seems to me, and if the Kindle Fire can do an adequate job at those tasks, for more than half the price, then why not go that direction?

Re: Kobo Vox Review – Full Hands On

Can you expand a bit on this statement, "There was an Archie comic loaded on the device and it had elements from popular Android Comic Book readers."

Did the Kobo Vox have other comic book reader apps or are you talking about comic book content acquired through the Kobo app?

Re: ‘IT Crowd’ Star Richard Ayoade Joins ‘Neighborhood Watch’ | /Film

I had no idea he directed Submarine. It's quite good, and frankly, much more enjoyable than I've ever found the IT Crowd. Maybe he should focus on directing over acting.

Re: Amazon tablet revealed; forks older Android and replaces Google marketplace

But cheap can be good. Since I really only use my tablet for eBooks, surfing the web and as a back-up HTPC controller, there was nothing about the iPad that was worth the extra $300 it costs over a rooted Nook Color, for me. That is admittedly not the prevailing opinion among the millions of happy iPad owners, but there may be a market for a cheaper tablet like this. I assume Amazon will push it pretty hard.

Re: Amazon tablet revealed; forks older Android and replaces Google marketplace

While the discussion of forking and what it means for the user, the developer and Android as a larger entity, are all interesting, what I would care about for this device is how fast the Android hacking community can get CyanogenMod installed on it. I have a Nook Color that lasted all of 5 minutes as a Barnes & Noble device. If this thing has better/different hardware, but could run a modded ROM, I might be interested in checking it out.

Re: Google Reader Finally Gets an Android App

As a daily Google Reader user, and Android owner since the G1 it feels like I've been waiting almost 2 years for this. OTOH, it's been pretty easy to just use Reader through the browser. A quick test run makes me think there are plus and minuses to both experiences, will just have to see how it develops over time. Google Listen was unusable at first but has improved exponentially recently, IMO.

Re: Is there a future for Home Theater PC’s?

Thanks for visiting java_jack! You are absolutely right that HTPCs and streaming devices are niche, no doubt. I do think, though, as netbooks, nettops, etc. become more prevalent, and cheaper, and as people begin to amass more and more computers in their homes, then they may be more open to using them in dedicated ways, like an HTPC. A $300 nettop with GPU acceleration might become pretty tempting to people accustomed to getting a lot of content from the Internet.

Re: Is there a future for Home Theater PC’s?

Those are good points, and I'm not sure I have much to add. I would love to get a sense of where you think IPTV standards might be moving, is there a current project that you think is a good indicator of where things will likely end up?

Re: Is there a future for Home Theater PC’s?

Well, when it comes to input, let's just say I'm agnostic about sources. ;) Nonetheless, with the Hauppauge capture device, I can get all my cable shows in HD, so a CableCARD right now is not particularly appealing.

Re: Video getting better on the Android with new apps

I say go for it! ;) It's a fun phone and has a ton of options for tweaking it to your heart's content.
