While assistance to foreign and local Franciscan parishes, formation of Franciscan seminarians, assistance to ailing priests etc are all notable and admirable tasks, why should they come from the pockets of couples just wanting to get married? Where have they been getting all those funds for those projects before today? The Catholic Church int he Philippines has LOTS of money. It's got millions invested in stocks. It's got a lot of voluntary donors. If you're trying to tell me that you want to pass on the costs of your projects to your parishioners against their will is a good thing, I hope Pope Francis rains down lightning and thunder down on you. This is the reason why we need to be careful in trying to moderinze our PUJs. The unique design of our jeeps is part of our history and our culture. To replace them with generic white vehicles would spell the death of a unique part of our culture. Modernize if you must. Make them electric. Whatever. But I hope they keep the design.

Not just change that we can live with it, but change that we deserve. Too long has the Catholic Church had an influence on political matters it had no business meddling in. I'm Catholic, but I'm angered and embarrassed every time the church tried to force its beliefs on the rest of the country be they Catholic or not. They feel they're that powerful, Duterte is the perfect guy to put them down a peg or two.
