I think she surprised everyone in the media, dems and even those in her own party. Biden did well, and also had more substance to his debate. And.... like I said before the debate, Ifill didn't favor Obama like you thought she would-- exactly the opposite, I thought she could have asked many more direct questions.... but anyway, she was at least fair, even you could admit that.

Palin clearly had a game plan, and stuck to it-- She said her talking points, and even directed the conversation at times to what she wanted to talk about, can't fault her for executing a good game plan...
Biden also must have had the plan to attack McCain, and not so much Palin(to attack) , he did a good job painting the picture that Bush and McCain's policies are no different than each others, and look what that's done the last eight years.

I'm enjoying going back and forth on this, and respect your views as I always have, and it's cool, that we can agree to disagree. See, McCain's camp loves to preach that Obama is going to raise taxes, over and over again that is their claim. He is... to people who make over $250,000 a year. If you make less, you're taxes are NOT going up PERIOD. Most small business owners don't even make that much after paying salaries, overhead, and getting creative w/ write offs, etc....Shoot, A business owner could hire one of his kids, or wife/husband to come in 2 or 3 days a week to take a $50,000 salary if that is what it takes to put him under 250K. Household income stays the same... but hey? Don't tell me that doesn't happen, cause it does.

So the whole “Obama's gonna raise your taxes” is becoming a stale argument for the right. The main problem I have is that no one has informed me or millions of other Americans specifically why and how McCains policies differ from Bushes-- Truth is, I don't think they do... Foreign policy, economics, social, you name it. They simply don't differ, and I think that point , and that point alone is why McCain is behind at this point. I'm like you, when you said throw all the bums out of Washington, Dems and the GOP, but I do think Obama is genuinely a better option than McCain. I would have loved to see Huckabee on the ticket, but that is just not an option.

I don't think by “taking a chance” on a democrat is going to send our country to hell.
The top things on Obama's agenda are NOT:
supporting gay rights
opening abbortion clinics at your local walmart
creating as many useless governmental programs as he can
taking away your guns
or any other issue that scare republicans the most... here's the best...
WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE WAVING WHITE FLAGS IN IRAQ EITHER.
Democrats understand just as much as Republicans do that the Commander in Chief's primary objective is to protect the American people: We will still have the same people advising Obama as we would advising McCain. Obama has shown that he is willing to listen to advice, McCain is a “Maverick” remember? He does what He and ONLY he thinks.

There are many more important things to worry about in this country today and tomorrow. Who ever wins, I at least hope for what they both are preaching... REAL CHANGE in Washington.

—Justin K

Re: Just in case you had any delusions about a lack of media bias…

True, True that everyone preps for debates. I'm sure Biden is prepping for the debate just the same. He better be, cause I wouldn't underestimate any candidate. I also know that moderators pick the questions themselves and are to disclose them to no one. I think it will be obvious to everyone if that sort of thing is to happen with the questioning, I don't think it will. If anything, it's an opportunity to show how you can think on your feet by either A. stating the truth... or B. (what many do) is dodge the question with lengthy responses that direct attention elsewhere. If she can't answer questions I think she should know the answers to, like name one other Supreme Court Case besides Roe vs. Wade, or name a publication you read... Come on, Gotcha journalism? Another question came from a VOTER, she couldn't answer. Those aren't tough questions- Those are questions you would expect a candidate for the Vice President to be able to answer. I agree that, that kind of journalism exists, but that has not been the case lately.
It's not like they asked her who the President of Scandinavia was?
Do you know? I don't... I also think that anyone can be stumped at any time by any one, but I at least think she should be on the same page as McCain with statements regarding their policies. And you too are pre-judging Obama, just because he doesn't have the experience that McCain has.
No Kool-Aid drinking going on here, just observations on facts I see and what I think.

Re: Just in case you had any delusions about a lack of media bias…

Both parties will get to answer the same question... Each candidate will have an opportunity to speak. The moderator does not “award points” for answers given. Now this thing is about the moderator? Who cares who is doing the question asking. I personally wouldn't care if George Bush himself was asking the questions. Sounds to me that excuses are already being made for Palin... Who knows, maybe she can hold her own and and answer honest questions with full sentences, she is “training” for this at the McCain Ranch. Maybe she will remember the canned responses that her own campaign staff is injecting her with.

Re: It’s up for debate.

Your Five and My Five...
I love a good argument. R's and D's aside (same stuff, just two different piles), here's my 5 observations from the first debate.

1. Somebody must have told John not to even look in Obama's direction at all during the debate, as if he's “better than Barrack” and to just pay no mind to this new guy challenging Mighty McCain. Obama was clearly more respectful towards his opponent. Truth is, Obama deserves to be on the stage as much as McCain does. They are both the winners of their respective parties. To me, McCain came off as Elitist.
2. McCain can namedrop all he wants w/ anecdotal stories. We all know by now that he does have experience and is a war hero, and for that, he is greatly respected and appreciated... The war hero part, the experience as a senator is what concerns me.
3. Obama is the clear winner of the “Missed Opportunity Award”.
The table was set, with the economy, unemployment, layoffs, etc. and.... the massive Wallstreet Bailout crisis for Obama to hammer away at the republican train of thought of “Trickle Down Economics” and how the rich get richer, while the poorer get poorer... only now it's middle class America being driven to the poorhouse.
4. McCain and his campaign staff is desperate. How else do you explain picking Palin, the “Great Hillary Hope Vote Stealer” and his stunt to which he “Suspended” his campaign. Please. What's next, Him letting refugees from the next hurricane stay at ONE of his houses?
5. I totally agree with your number 5. Palin better at least hold her own against Biden, or the next McCain Hailmarry move might just be replacing her at the last minute with someone else. From what I've seen from her limited time on TV, I can't tell the difference between her and Tina Fay's impression of her. I totally agree with who ever said that she is “Way out of her League”.

If the dems can not win this race with everything that's going on in our country, and the world--- and the fair coverage from the media, Notice I didn't say biased, if you want to see biased media, watch Fox, it is there own fault for not being able to convince the voters that McCain will simply be just more of the same.

Re: What are we payin’ these guys for?

I would be glad to help with designing and coming up with additional ones.
Just let me know...

Re: Marketing Perceptions.

Well written, and I agree with most of the points you make, however-- I'm looking forward to posting to one of your blogs on your thoughts on McCain's and Obama's first debate. I'm writing this after the first debate that took place on Fri. I think it was close, about even, however in an ironic way. I give the first half to McCain (about the economy), he seemed to set the pace and hammered on taxes and spending, traditionally Rep strong points. Obama had a huge opportunity to gain some points in this area, being that by “perception” Republicans are to blame for the economy from the last eight years of Bush failed policies. Obama could have talked about the reality of what many are going through, but he didn't. He could have brought up the fact that McCain is simply out of touch with middle America, but he didn't. Maybe Obama is saving his fire for the next debate, or maybe Biden will unload on Palin with these kitchen table stories... who knows. The debate evened itself out though when Obama was able to stand against McCain on Foreign Policy. Different views of course, but Obama knew what he was talking about and was able to argue his case. In the end, I guess I was dissappointed in their first debate. I didn't hear anything that I have not already heard from either of them.
