My favourite read this year was Scott Belsky's "Making Ideas Happen" ... it helped me make huge leaps in productivity and turning my ideas into actual finished things!

Wow! That programme was obviously put together by experts who spent a lot of time talking with lots and lots of single Mums from all walks of life, and have a deep and well-informed grasp of the priorities of women in general. They have obviously NOT been influenced in any way by societies stereotypical views of women in general and single mothers in particular ;)

I think I would have been letting out a hell of a lot more expletives than you did if I had watched this. Single Mums get enough of a hard time without being portrayed as vacuous, obsessed husband hunters.

I mean, men are great and they have their uses, but they are not all that!

I looove Mighty Text too. I spend a lot of my day at my computer and its to handy to be able to respond to people from where I am - and have one less device to muck around with!!

I also love Evernote, Thrive Solo for invoicing/time keeping/project planning, HelloSign (for getting contracts signed) and Momentum (a cool Chrome App that keeps me on track with what I need to do each day)

It may just be a matter of semantics, but I really dislike the term 'Lifestyle Business'. On the one hand it feels kind of flippant & shallow, and on the other it feels like a smug dig at the poor bastards out there working for the man.

Personally I feel that whether you run your business from home, out of a suitcase, or from an office in the centre of town, or whether you work 4 hours a day or 24 ... you are running a lifestyle business! Admittedly some of those options are a little more appealing than others ;)

I believe that it is of paramount importance when you choose to start your own business, as with any other big life decisions, to make every effort to be intentional about it. You need to create your business with deep roots in your values and a clear understanding of exactly what you want to achieve, or the lifestyle you will create may well not be the one you were chasing.

I see no reason why we cannot indeed create profitable businesses that resonate with our values, and allow us time to spend doing (other) things that are important to us! I just would really like to call it something different ;)

This is so true. Competition is so limiting ... and exhausting! Collaboration brings new ideas, resources & opportunities into the mix. Open Source software is a great example of how collaboration can achieve great things - look at how quickly many Open Source platforms are able to respond to fixing bugs & developing new features as opposed to comparable proprietary products!

Great post. Its so easy to leap (stagger?) out of bed in the morning and get straight into all the busy work, without taking the time to focus on what is actually important!

I have recently begun making a point of starting my day with yoga, gratitude & connecting with my goals ... and breakfast. Its amazing what a boost it all gives me to get my day started right!!

I love dropbox and use it all the time - great for backing up my WP blog as well as for file sharing. Recently discovered http://letscrate.com/ - super simple file sharing and am loving that too - especially for using with folk that don't want to set up a dropbox account!
