Wow, you really seem to know a lot about the process for a new author. Great that you are up on all this. Also you're blessed to have had friends who have gone though similar problems and shared their experiences. Unfortunately, though, I cannot go into all the details as I am on deadline. Hopefully, the courts will settle all this. And in the meantime, Happy Turkey and blessings on your career.

Hi, Dale...Preview...fine. However, somehow or another books that had reverted to me found their way onto GB, for sale, and let's just say the buy button didn't refer back to Amazon.

Would that all researchers and authors were like you. I wish they were. But many people newer to the business don't even know what "fair use" is. If it's on the web, it's fair game...not fair use. And though we can't stop it, my point is....why make it easier? What I object to is that scanning whole books diminishes sales.

I agree. Why buy it when you can get all your info on line for free? And that's when the "borrowing" takes place. "Oh, I'll just borrow this little photo and that little phrase; Oh, this is exactly what I need. I'll just borrow this for my blog, and forget to attribute it. I don't think this judge "gets" how long and hard authors work to write their books and get them published......only to have them stolen away by a ginormous word eater like the Big G., who just scans and offers everything for free.Blah!

This is sad news, indeed. Peter was the publisher of my first book, THE JOY OF BEING SINGLE, as well as my fifth book, THE JOY OF BEING FIFTY. He gave me my start in the business when I sent him a one-page proposal, without an agent, without ever having written a book before. Workman was one of a kind; a person who brought humor to the forefront; wasn't afraid to take a risk; a guy who cared about his authors, and who was extremely approachable. There is no other house like his. I definitely will miss him. RIP, Peter, and condolences to the family and co-workers.

Good advice, Daskha.....shorter is better when it comes to picture books. A good way to see if you have too much text is to read it out loud. Also be careful about using big words that kids wouldn't have a clue about.

BEA was a blast....Seemed like everyone was optimistic. Hope that translates into sales. Got to sign my new books, including the galleys of my Zondervan tween devo, WHATEVER: LIVIN' THE TRUE, NOBLE, TOTALLY EXCELLENT LIFE! Best of all, I got my photo taken with Clifford, the Big, Red Dog! Doesn't get any better than that....for me, anyway.

Met her and her husband a long time ago when I interviewed them in their Pa. home. Delightful, down-to-earth, genuine people. They both gave a lot to the world of children's books and will be missed. RIP.
