Sometimes just making it through the day is a victory worth celebrating. I am learning more and more that I can't even do that without His help! More to your point though Fred, we often don't celebrate it enough when God comes through in a big way, and we should. My list is too long to put down here, but He is a GREAT God and GREATLY to be praised!!!!

And just for fun, since you started this off with a football reference, I'll end with this:

Hey Fred! I'll take a "Free-play Saturday" if that's all I can get!

I can certainly identify with your "funk" experience. Been there, done that! Although it may be caused by something we did or neglected to do (or eat!), sometimes it is just something you have to "get through", but I have found that if I do something intentional, it speeds the process. Just trying to distract myself with work, or TV or even music, usually only prolongs it. But prayer or worship or even felowship with my wife or other believers usually brings a breakthrough pretty quickly.

Then again, sometimes, I just need a venti house blend from Starbucks! ;)

BTW, love the Uninted Pursuit Band! Very raw and real.

Going out today to buy another copy of "A Christmas Story" on DVD. I haven't been able to find mine since the move. (This is actually a good excuse to get the "Anniversary Edition", if I can find it!)

I love it, and I do get the point, but technically, Jesus' obedience and blood don't just hide our transgressions from view: they are completely washed away! Having said that, I'd still sing it and be moved by it.

As a worship leader and as a worshiper, I love singing Christmas songs in worship services this time of year (as long as it's not something like "Jingle Bells"!). Musically, I generally prefer more contemporary arrangements, but it's really more about the lyrical content, right? Like Mike said, many carols are powerful songs in their own right.

Sometimes I have found that by revising older, familiar songs musically, it can cause people to re-discover the power in the lyrics. David Crowder does this regularly with hymns, and I think it works with Christmas music as well.

Still checking out local churches in the Summerville area and praying about where to get "plugged-in". This Sunday, we visited Northwoods Assembly (N. Charleston) and totally underestimated the time needed to get there, check all the kids into their calsses, and get into the service. We missed the entire music set, but the message was good.

Fred, Every Christmas, I always think (and laugh) about watching "A Christmas Story" with you in the 'Boro. It is my all-time favorite Christmas movie as well, with "It's a Wonderful Life" running a close second. "Elf" and "The Grinch" also get a lot of play in our house every year.
