I agree with this comment. I am also touched by his story, but question limiting choices as to me that still seems ultimately like a limit on freedom.

Loved all of those! (I haven't yet read The Lowland or And The Mountains Echoed but both are on my to-read list.) I recently read Going Clear (non-fiction) and Good Lord Bird and loved both. Other books I loved this year: The Fault in Our Stars, Behind the Beautiful Forevers & Tenth of December.

that is so funny - i was totally wondering what was up with that interrupting lady. it was bizarre! and i loved s.'s acceptance speech. when she won, toby said how she annoys him and i said, "she's supposed to be a really cool person though" and she definitely proved to be. i love it when they thank the other nominees. i didn't see the movie, but i think with "crash" and now this, she's coming around from the start of her career, which is full of bad movies.

we saw this last night and i also thought it was brilliant.i really agree with this: "There weren’t lame quick cuts in the action scenes but rather the camera dwells on the situation at hand and allows the viewer to experience the situation just as the soldiers are. It’s not action – it’s suspense." it felt very un-hollywood and real. all except the last ten minutes. i thought flashing to the a little too polished hollywood wife and then the loud music when he's back at war made it too much like a video. in another movie, i might not have noticed, but the rest of it was so good and so realistic that i thought the ending wasn't up to par with the rest of the movie. that said, it was still a really great film. i think she deserves best director award and some best actor awards should come out of it too.

bacon-eating runners would be a great insurance category.
the fact that they are specifically marking the cap on prices that smokers should pay to me indicates that the whole thing is just going to be a big pile of debt for us and for our kids. the baby boomers will be long remembered as the generation that had everything (since they will be the generation to benefit from the plan) and screwed everyone else.

we just saw it and thought it was amazing. your comments on human likeness are interesting and so true. to me, the worst part of the movie was the main "bad guy" who was so over the top that people laughed when he wasn't trying to be funny - never a good sign. otherwise, the movie totally blew me away. so glad i saw it in the theater. oh, and, regarding the green comments, the movie was targeting advanced technology used for war. the main character used technology to get to the land and that ultimately was a good thing for him and the people. i don't think it was necessarily "anti technology" , (which isn't a synonym for green either).

that seems so true. i hadn't thought of that. we have cable and, aside from the office and glee, which i guess i would have for free, the only thing i watch is cnn, which i'm sure i could easily get online. the problem is my computer is so slow for streaming shows online and obviously cnn is kind of worthless a week old...
