Wow. The difference between efforts that have the 'breath of God' in them and those that don't is staggering. One is all gears-grinding, creating momentum from dust, wrestle wrestle wrestle. The other doesn't guarantee comfort or ease... but there is a lightness and clarity that rises to the top. It's staggering to me that I've done both, and I know full well the dangers of crafting experiences with only the 'APPEARANCE of life'... and yet that is my default mode of operation if I'm not intentional.

Thank you for putting words to this truth.

Re: Glamorous Or Glorious Worship?

VERY well said. Thank you for sharing this. seems like the tendency is to claim to want the 'glorious', but then employ the strategy of the 'glamour'. Because the glorious doesn't always translate so well to instagram. :)

Re: 6 Simple Tips to Help Your Rehearsal Go Smoothly

Totally agree, Rob.

Re: 6 Simple Tips to Help Your Rehearsal Go Smoothly

I also wonder if you could use some kind of small rolling file box or suitcase (carry-on size) for basic, commonly needed things like office supply-ish stuff. I always do, too, and have never been able to figure it out. High school variety show concerts, musicals, anything kids have rehearsed and are performing... even dolphin shows. DOLPHIN SHOWS. there's always a moment in things like that where I lose it a bit.

Re: Your Country Music Guide

made me laugh. out loud even.

you SO have to write a sappy song. but somewhere in the middle weave lyrics in that completely destroy the sappiness if anyone's actually paying attention.

please oh please oh please.

Re: Noisy Babies in Church

ha!! that is brilliant! great job Kasidy!!

she's talking.. she's talking... Having seen/lived the church staff life for a while, I wanted to stand on the table and scream, "yes! yes! yes!" several times. But I didn't. So as to not frighten my children. :) So, so many things you wrote are true to our experience, but you've added appropriate perspectives of 'don't let this happen!' both from the pastoral and the congregational sides of things. I love that. I'm going to refer lots and lots of people to this series of posts. Thanks for writing them.

Re: Obama Leaves His Church (and 10 things to know about leaving yours)

great advice.

Re: Prayer Posts and Prayer Dares #7

I do agree and have had the same concerns. Another concern that runs alongside these: the assertion that 'God blessed an event' or 'really answered our prayers' because the logistics of an event went smoothly. It didn't rain at an outdoor wedding. Or the caterer did actually bring all the food on time. These are the measures of God's intervention. Of COURSE God can and does and will intervene in this way. It just bothers me that we fall into measuring God's presence by whether or not the plans we've made actually work.
