Probably a steering committee which can gather at Scala conferences to start planning? User groups, major companies, and groups like NICTA and universities with Scala curricula can be inducted into the committee. The committee can be pretty self-nominating and then come up with further rules...

It would be great to send the representatives of the major user groups, such as SF Scala and Spark Users, to the steering committee. Since Martin welcomes this, a holistic and democratic approach is needed... A foundation will probably need physical meetings and a standing body to work. Meetings can be timed with conferences, an office may or may not be needed. Budget, volunteers, forums, etc. A very timely move, thanks Miles!

Вообще пора создавать союз Евреев, Немцев, и Грузин (ГЕН) по управлению 1/7-ой. В конституцию вводится поправка, что на любой должности с более чем 10-ю подчиненными может служить только ГЕН или иностранец из стран первого мира. Приглашаются граждане США и ЕС для занятия этих должностей.

Если это русский национализм, то лучше не быть русским и/или националистом нежели с таким соглашаться. Кашин, зачем ты сосуществуешь рядом с сиим экскрементом? Или в Великороссии уже принято так писать везде? Или это просто тинейджеры пишут?

Interesting... But my Inserter is an actor so I'm concerned I have one for each and it stays the same -- no functions instead of real things; thus having a List right away gives me comfort. Moreover, there's only a few of those -- about the number of cores -- so this is not a question of performance, but of correctness and visual beauty.

In Ada you have named parameters, but still can have unnamed parameter and result type profiles, purely positional. Same can certainly be done to Scala for type-only prototypes... After all, you do not have to call them with names!

Ah, I thought of simply doing

f(2) // to set data
val external = f() // to get it

But overriding assignment works, too -- although I'd just keep data public as it is now and assign to it directly, no?
