apparently it was a sizing issue with tiger - they wanted him in a smaller size and he wanted to go fuller, so they wont have jackets with his name on them ready until friday - according to sun mountain every player received 2 short sleeved and 2 long sleeved rain tops.

i like the whole concept of a personalized buckle a lot CN, but you know what I'm going to say... haha... I'd go with a small, sterling silver chicklet with "KC" and a white gator strap. White belts, like white slacks, aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Especially now that Tiger wears one. Did you know in lots of online polls Tiger gets named "best dressed" by the golfing public... All that tells me is: Don't stop educating!

Those Lambda USA shoes are actually pretty damn cool. I saw those guys at the PGA show and if they can get into North America I think they'll make a splash.

Adam Scott is wearing RLX pretty much exclusively these days.

Luke is perhaps "measured" next to Rickie, but he's definitely one of the guys pushing the color palette on tour. He's no stranger to a pair of green slacks...

Absolutely agree w/ you. all athletes are "earning it" - if they werent putting in the time they wouldnt be there, across the board.
I do think some golf fans and writers have a superiority thing going with regards to putting golf on a pedestal. That is just golfers being golfers. It won't change. We happen to think our game is the best and the hardest and the fairest and the purest. You're going to go blue in the face trying to change that bias.

all good, but were we reading the same article? freidman was just using those examples to make his points - i doubt he feels golfers have a superiority over other athletes, no one is denying the pure physicality of team sports, nor the desire of those athletes to to close the deal and to win.
And I didn't get the same message as you did about the $$ factor. I just saw it as Freidman noting that golfers aren't secured with contracts that will pay them for simply competing - so they must grind out the results. (Save for sponsorships, which also exist in other sports.) A top 10 is a top 10, whereas ARod makes 100k while going 0 for 4. That's his only point. That's not a slant at any one athlete, just the truth.

No offense, of course, to Bill Pennington, but aren't these NY Times articles a little late-coming? I mean belts and buckles being big for golf? That's fairly ancient news.

I'm with Andy Brown on this one. That's why I always liked the Ryder and President's Cups, most of the everyday corporate crap is stripped away and we get the raw version of these guys. (sometimes without hats and shades)
I think when it comes to clubs, most of the flagship, tour quality stuff is pretty similar and these guys could find success with most any brand, so they shop around, but in the end they wont play something they dont like the look of - just like they wont wear clothing they think looks stupid just to cash a check. (But yeh, Stephanie, you're right, Lee Westwood looks like an idiot with 15 sponsors on his shirt.)
Pros kind of tailor their own profiles, so to speak, based on their own personalities, and their 'selves' do come out, as you said, to an extent. Which I guess is what we all have to be happy about. The Tour is full of characters, but all the corporate influence certainly hinders what we could be seeing.

US Am that is. He wasn't much of anything on tour, but I think he played in the Masters with Tiger and did pretty well.

Last Italian semi-presence on Tour was the guy who won or finished second in the Am. Eduardo Molinari. I think he has a brother who plays the Euro Tour now.
