My laptop is old and it is ready to be replaced, I realize that the way I use my laptop is that I consume content, write, and do some web based work. I don't need a full blown laptop again and I don't want one because I hate carrying them around. Also I would prefer to do any design work or coding on my desktop because the screen is so much larger and it is a much more pleasant experience. So I started thinking about a netbook and now the iPad.

The problem for me with the iPad is that I can't multi-task. I can't be on a Twitter app while surfing the web, or being at a conference taking notes. That is a big deal breaker for me. It sounds like with the newer version of the OS it will be fixed but I am content until the next generation of models comes out. I want one but I am willing to wait a year to make sure it can do what I want.

Re: So, When Do You Plan To Use the iPad?

If it had multi-tasking I would jump on it. I need a new laptop and don't want to shell out money for something I will only use when traveling or taking notes at a meeting. I all of my heavy work on my home computer and think that this would be appealing for when I travel. Looking at how I use my laptop I would be able to do everything on the iPad which would also be much lighter and easier to carry around.

The problem is that without the multi-tasking it limits how I work which I don't like.

Re: Google Voice: One Number Rings All

I have Google Voice and need to use it more. This is going to inspire me to use it that much more.

Re: Important People on Twitter

I know what you are saying and I totally agree that listening to what your customers want and what they think about everything is more important than chasing around "rock stars". But I am just playing devil's advocate here with the use of information and the ethics around it. I just think the privacy debate and how we use the information that people entrust us with is interesting, even if what we are doing harmless it might not mean it is ethical.

Let's say for arguments sake you are a company that produces adult products and you create a Twitter list of everyone that has purchased something from you using the e-mail that they have provided you. You make that Twitter list public, John Smith doesn't want to be associated with your brand that way and didn't give you permission to do so.

Or even if you don't have it public and then choose to jump in and respond to something on your private Twitter list engaging with your customers that you are monitoring. Lets say they have like two dozen followers and then you jump into the convo, they are going to want to know how you found them and why you are connecting.

I guess what I am trying to say is even setting up this listening post and using information that you didn't think was going to be used in this way can be debated if it is ethical or not.

Re: Important People on Twitter

The sentiment is great but there is more here that needs to be explored. The issue with that is the ethics of using that information and dropping it into social media. They gave you permission to have an e-mail relationship not to have a relationship via social media, even if you are just dropping the e-mail in and creating lists.

I guess if you made the lists all private on the down low it wouldn't be that bad but it can be argued it is still a breach of trust. I think this is a very big grey area when talking about social media. At what point is there a breach of trust?

Re: State Government Social Media Case Study

I can't believe that at this point so many states don't have this basic function on their site. They're still relying on good ole fashion ad campaigns, muscle flexing, consumer manipulation tactics. Last year was the first down year by .03%, which will rebound this year.

Re: The Future of Movie Rentals: Buy DVDs or Wait 30 Days

How is this even a big deal?

A movie, that I didn't deem worthy to go see in a theatre, is released on Netflix 30 days later than the purchase date of the DVD.

So I have to wait 30 days for a movie that I already waited to see for 4-6 months that I didn't think was worth paying ten bucks to see when it came out? Where is the downside?

If it helps Netflix and allows them to have more money to put into their streaming features or blue ray back library don't I win in the end?

Re: Quick Shout Out

Please don't associate my name with yours, Rob May, Todd Earwood, or Jason Falls.

You Louisville people scare the crap out of me.

Re: 10 Reasons Why Brands Refuse to Embrace Social Media

I think that some companies see it as a fad (which kind of ties into the experiment spot). Some companies just thing that this is a passing thing kind of like radio, television, the telephone, and the internet.
