Although, Torchwood actually features a number of bisexual characters, so it is kind of unfair to use it as an example. But I'm definitely with infoMania on this. Now I just want to watch more "Target: Women" with Sarah Haskins.

Re: "He Whipped My Ass In Tennis...."

Jon's a supernice guy, too! I recently did an interview with him about his memoir, Deflowered.

You can check it out here: http://www.culdesacmag.com/...

And they're coming to Chicago in June, so hopefully I can talk to the rest of the guys. The DVD is out now, too, so I will hopefully be able to watch that soon. Yay, Pansy Division! I'm glad they're getting some much-deserved recognition.

Re: The (L) Word- A Dyke in Every Shade.

I felt the same way about Queer as Folk ( the American version). It's a very, very slight representation of gay men (and it's called "queer"? Who's queer in that white-washed stereotypical gang of fairies? They're just homos). And I can see the same thing about The L Word; it's just a better-constructed show with better acting, so I think that's a small step in the right direction. I would love to see more diverse portrayals of our community; I was watching LOGO because my parents get it, and the majority of the short films they were showing had gay white male protagonists (actually, that was pretty much the majority of the characters in all of them). Being White is so passe... I'm over it.

On another note, can they turn "Shortbus" into a TV series? That would be awesome.

Re: be yr own queero- gay, lesbian, bi, trans, queer activism, culture & news:

Saw this video yesterday; lots of eye-rolling going on in this house.

Re: be yr own queero- gay, lesbian, bi, trans, queer activism, culture & news:

Pritty good.

Have you seen the Colbert Report version? http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: Lez Have a Gay Ol' Time in Brooklyn...

Two things:

The city I grew up in is called DeKalb.

I just interviewed Jon Ginoli of Pansy Division for Cul de sac Magazine last week! I don't think the choices people made on "Undressed" really qualifies them as role models.

Re: Questioning Maleness: Constructing Homosexual Identity

I think the insularity of the gay men in most places around this country help breed the psychology you're talking about. In big cities, gays and lesbians are still ghettoized (Boystown and Andersonville in Chicago, Castro in San Fran) so it causes a healthy number of homosexuals to be concerned with short-term and self-interested goals. I myself get annoyed when gay men are unwilling to think about issues that affect the entire LGBTQ community rather than just their own problems. But there are definitely people out there that can look outside themselves and are worthwhile conversationalists.

Not to brag, but I do have a wonderful boyfriend who I find both brilliant and attractive, but it did take a lot of work and traveling the perils of the gay dating scene. And I have been fortunate enough to talk with or learn about a great number of queer people I admire. So, while the gay mainstream is back in a 70s, "Me Generation" mindset, I think sussing out the alternatives has been a great way to get in touch with intellectual queers.

Re: how does my gender define me? it doesn't!

I definitely grew up the same way; probably between the ages of 4 and 9 I really wanted to be a girl. All my friends were girls, I played with dolls and other stereotypically "female" playthings. I would always play a female character in video games or just play-acting (as kids do).

Gender to me has always been such a random thing. I don't feel the need to be physically female, but I like being able to explore more female traits. Gender expression is so defined in the larger culture, but I think it's more rewarding and freeing to be able to hop gender lines.

Re: be yr own queero- gay, lesbian, bi, trans, queer activism, culture & news:

I was planning a trip out to Florida for some time in September (I somehow finagled a free trip to Universal Studios).
