And you mentioned one of my "favorite" hacking examples in movies...Swordfish. But with an oopsie. Because it's even worse than you mentioned...Hugh Jackman doesn't manage to “assemble crypto algorithm” (which makes no sense) , it's actually (*on screen*) " “assemble crypto *algorhythm*”! So bad it makes me wince to this day!

Re: It's Just a Computer — Near-Earth Object

Paul: a possible option, depending on their coverage in your area, (and if your phone, or phone of choice supports it) is Ting. They are strictly "pay as you go", so you could activate a phone ($6/month), log into their management screen and turn off cellular data there (ensuring you can't even accidentally use it), and even disable texting (if you wanted to, though that is really cheap).

Charlotte and I used Ting for our phone service for a little over a year, and saved about $70/month over our previous service. We eventually switched to Project Fi, but re-enabled a Ting phone 2 months ago as our house phone. I finally cut the cord on our cable bill (saving us *another* $1100 over the next year!), and I had to port the home number out from TWC first. I ended up sending it to Ting, so our "home phone" is a little Moto E.

We basically just wanted to keep the number that has been the house line for 20+ years (so we didn't have to call dentist, pharmacy, family members, etc. to change it). Basically we get the occasional appt reminder call, plus some family members who only call that number...we're on track for a $12 bill this month. I can handle that!

Have a look, and if you're interested, I think I have a referral thingie...oh, heck, let me find it. Here ya go: https://ze9laj2m7p6.ting.com/ Worth $25 in credit for each of us if you sign up, but no worries...just thought it might be worth taking a look at. For a minimum-use type of phone, it's hard to beat.

Re: Welcome to the Amazon GameDev Blog!

Congrats...things are looking really good so far! One thing: your RSS feed link is going to the regular Amazon Web Services RSS feed; I can't find one for your blog (tried a couple of obvious cut and paste changes, but no luck). I talked myself into the big Dark Horse Star Wars comics sale purchase the last week of the year, partially because I knew I could use the Nexus 9 that I bought my wife for Christmas as a reader. It works great there, and I liked it enough to track down, drag out, and recharge my...3(?) year old gTablet that runs Cyanogenmod. I couldn't get Google Play to install there, but Dark Horse actually has a sideload-able version of their Android client for download. In addition, I successfully installed the Amazon App Store, so I could d/l Comixology from there as well! Both work fine, and I've now got hundreds of comics to read and enjoy on the gTablet. As you said, tablets and digital comics are really a great way bring back comic reading.

Re: Extending and Using Fuse

Really excited about and looking forward to getting my Fuse, Phil! I think you dig deep into the confusion and consternation that many atheists/humanist/etc. feel. It's necessary, IMO, but not sufficient, to deal with this God thing. There is a lot of other crap that's causing more direct problems on a day to day basis. I do honestly believe that these issues are intimately related, but nevertheless, that's not all there is.

I honestly don't know if you depressed me or inspired me; it's much like Lessig's _Republic, Lost_ in that sense (such a good book!). Sane. You're so CUTE.

I hear what you're saying...but _President_ Rick Perry?? This is a potential Presidential candidate speaking. If you had made this speech, I'd have cracked up, shared it all over the Internet, and gone on to rib you. But you, last I checked, we're going for the "Most Powerful Man...er, Person in the World" seat. It was creepy! Plus there were giant factual errors (the first I remember yelling at the monitor about was the "deficit increased more under Obama than the entire previous history" comment...I'll track it down) that I hate; all candidates spin the facts as they will, but Perry (among others, he isn't alone) seems perfectly happy to just make them up (as far as I can tell, anyway). I'm no fan of that.

Regarding the goofiness...I dunno. I am trying to take your point. But dude...it was weird. And heck, maybe he was pounding cold medicine. Dean's over-excitable; Perry is a LOON.

I'll agree if your point is there's no NEED to pull this out to discredit Perry; noted. But if I gotta, I will.
