I will even help fill up the box's and move them to the new school. I can't even believe that was something that Teachers really wanted.

Re: Mediator starts work Wednesday on Kent teaching contract impasse - Kent Reporter

It is not true that Kent School District was trying to tie teacher pay to student test scores. I don't care that they agree or disagree on contract stuff, but stop spreading completely untrue info. I see way more of this coming from the Union than the district. Kent school board just won an award for being one of the best school boards in the state, our new super comes highly qualified and we are not Top Heavy in Kent. Stick to the issues that have already been stated, Time, Class size and compensation. Talk about you and what these issues mean to you in a contract; stop trying to turn our public schools into some sort of battle ground.

Re: Mediator starts work Wednesday on Kent teaching contract impasse - Kent Reporter

It is not true that Kent School District was trying to tie teacher pay to student test scores. Where can I find out more on how a strike will effect the students, and the rest of the school year? How can parents get more information that isn't skewed by the UNION or the District?

Re: Mediation starts between Kent district, teachers - Kent Reporter

So you point to your own blog for a place to research, then you spin the facts, and attack the parents, the community and a school board member. Why?? What are you hiding that puts you on the attack? Remember that a lot of parents want what’s best for their kids, and I think this year what is best is school starting on time, the problems you state aren't worth the long lasting negative impact, a strike will have. Why not focus on working with the company you work for to help them become better instead of attacking them and holding them hostage with a strike threat. Why not be the change you want to see in your schools, why not try actions that are positive? Lead by example, or as the King of Pop once sang, start with the "Man in the Mirror"
I'm starting with the Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him to Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place

Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change

Re: Kent School District declaes impasse in negotiations with union - Kent Reporter

Lower class sizes I love that idea. To this we need money to hire more teachers, because lets be really clear here, as a parent I hope that lower class sizes means LESS kids in EACH class. NOT an aid if class sizes go up, and NOT more pay if class sizes go over the "cap" Less kids in each class end of story. But what if it only means 1 less kid per class? NO way 1 less may make a difference in teacher work load but it doesn't affect student learning you need 6-8 less per class to make a real impact on student learning. I hope that as teachers you also want the district to use its money in ways that are proven to be most effective in improving student achievement. Right now today, I don't see how you can have BOTH a salary increase AND smaller class sizes.
All this being said, I hope that every single teacher who is working in Kent School District shows up to vote, I've heard from a lot of them and if teachers show up in mass's I believe they will vote NOT to strike.
Please show up and let your voice be heard! You can vote down an offer and still vote NOT to Strike. Please demonstrate the same problem solving and leadership skills that you are teaching students.

Re: Budget talks heat up between Kent School District, teachers union - Kent Reporter

To be honest I am very disappointed in the path that this is taking. A strike is an extreme and barbaric tactic where you hope to force the other side into doing things your way. With a strike you are burning bridges to your community and to see educators stoop to this befuddles me. I don’t want to hear who had the bad attitude first or any other nitpicky bickering. I just want to see both sides step up to the plate and work towards a solution that supports the students in the Kent School district. The school day should be “sacred” so to speak and the Political BS between the District and the union shouldn’t be allowed to trample on that!
