"America Recording" was a thing in Japan in the 1990s (and possibly still is?) It was a big selling point to say that something was recorded in the USA. Also, studio time and recording engineers are cheaper and more abundant overseas.

That was my idea a year or so ago when I tried to write a few articles here; why waste our time talking about lame new stuff when there's already enough older stuff out there to discuss and enjoy? Then I...started working a lot more, got married and started building a car, and sort of lost track...

Fun fact realized after having noticed a flier on my wall from about 2 years ago: This band's original lineup included Hizaki and Masashi from Versailles and Ken Morioka from Soft Ballet on keyboard.

4. During the 80s and 90s, most bands dreamt of reaching star-status through getting signed and promoted by a major record label. Instead, what motivated you at that time to start the independent record label Extacy Records? What is the most difficult thing about managing your own label?

5. I recall that a few years ago, you had sponsored an NSX-GT in Japan's Super GT 500 class. Do you have any particular interest in motorsport, or in cars? If so, what kind? What's the best, and what's the worst car you've ever owned?

6. Of all of the artists you've worked with as a producer, aside from your own band, who has been the most impressive or interesting to work with?

7. Could you describe "A day in the life of Yoshiki"? What kind of work, routines or activities do you usually do during an average day?

8. What has inspired you to tour the world as a classical musician? How does your mindset or creative process differ when working on classical music, as opposed to rock music? Which feels most natural for you?

I'll think of more over the next day or so and just reply to my own comment, but here's what I have so far:

1. You've presumably lived in the United States for many years. Why did you originally decide to relocate from Japan, and is there some particular reason or aspect of life that has kept you living there (as opposed to anywhere else?) And, is there something more favorable about operating a business or working as a musician in the USA as opposed to in Japan? (For example, in regard to economic stability, popularity of certain kinds of music, etc)

2. Throughout your career, who has been the most supportive of you (aside from the fans)?

3. How do you feel about current trends in the Japanese music industry (such as massive idol groups, digital music, etc)? To you. how have Japanese popular music and the cultures that surround it (the fanbase) changed over the past 20 years?

The show was produced by Square Enix in conjunction with the release of the game "Heavy Metal Thunder" in order to sell the game and its soundtrack. Rock Fujiyama was more so intended to be an actual show but unfortunately it didn't catch on.

Thanks for uploading this, I've never seen this episode. It's a shame this show was just a short-lived marketing gimmick for some PS2 game.

To me, this is similar to DSS in that it seems like someone's deliberate attempt to make something that *sounds* angry. While it's at least believable from Dir en grey because you can imagine that they wrote and played the music, this comes off immediately as being some faceless producer's cash cow. I might almost like this in an ironic sort of way if I didn't live in Japan and wasn't constantly exposed to this synchronized dancing shrill little pedo-idol type of stuff, but I'm so sick of droves of preteen girls waving their arms around I could scream.

I feel like including Marty might make it easier...Megadeth had Marty Friedman, whose live band included CHARGEEEE (http://youtu.be/af8Vw22B7Fc), who also plays with Kozi in ZIZ. Kozi was in Malice Mizer, whose original drummer Gaz played support for Baiser. Baiser's Yukari produced several Rentrer en Soi releases, for which Kyo of Dir en Grey was also a vocal coach.

I hope they've improved the design. I drove one of the old ones up and down a hilly street in Narita a few years ago and spent most of the time holding it with the e-brake to prevent from coasting into the car behind me. It had the worst transmission imaginable, a manual with no clutch pedal, so you had to get the throttle application just right or it would bog out and stall. It was like a bastard cross between a formula car and a lawnmower, terrible and downright dangerous.

I remember the first 15 minutes or so of Moon Child being a pretty cool Matrix knockoff with vampires, followed by 2 hours of dull, awkward love story superimposed over a confusing social commentary about modern Sino-Japanese relations.

These are fantastic! "Eyes=Mirrorge"! I remember being rather impressed by their single ("birth"?) Female VK bands are usually cool just because they're female VK bands but they were legitimately cool, or at least on-par with whatever was coming out of Matina at the time. Of all the bands in this post to survive, I wonder how/why is Nightmare the only one that's still around.

She's a thin Japanese woman in a blonde wig and a maid costume at an anime convention; she may as well be Moses in Israel. There's a faint tinge of minstrel showy exploitation about the whole thing, but people will be people I suppose.

This is actually one of my favorite L'arc albums. The chorus in "Loreley" is a great piece of songwriting. I still listen to it and think "how the hell did they come up with that?"
