I just wonder if they have limitations - as in which types of companies will feel comfortable using them. Do they seem too trendy, or not strong enough for something like a law firm website or a bank? Will be interesting to see where this goes.

Re: Is This It? If it's easy to use and I can keep my phone in my purse and not wonder where i put it every five minutes, having the watch will be a great thing. I just hope it's as beautiful and easy to use as it was in Jonny Ive's gorgeous demo video!

Re: An Easy Guide to Cool Color Combos

Thanks for the tip on Chrome eyedropper. I have a 19 year old daughter, so I'm not unaware of the concerns of a parent. My own feeling is that you teach your kids well, and share your values with them, and then hope for the best. Most kids I know that are 15 are on Instagram, and Snapchat, and twitter. Very difficult to put the lid on social networking once the 'genie is out of the bottle' so to say. Show her stories about kids who have gotten into trouble on the internet, she needs to be educated so she is able to self-monitor. Hope this helps!

Re: What is Instagram and Why Is It So Popular?

Actually, it's not an Apple product. Facebook bought Instagram for $1B dollars after they had been around a little more than a year. If you thinks it's all about selfies, you need to do some more exploring of Instagram.

Re: What is Instagram and Why Is It So Popular?

Hi Lynn - the difference is the the simplicity of the UX and the community that has been built around Instagram. It's in my pocket all the time, a glimpse into the world of my friends and people who interest me. Flickr is a great site, but it doesn't engender the community vibe that Instagram does. Instagram is an 'as-it-happens' stream of photos. Not one where you take pix with your great camera, upload them to your computer and post them afterwards. It really has nothing to do with tags or hashtags. It's not for everyone, of course, but it's definitely made a lot of friends around the world. :)

Re: Top 10 Tips from a Social Media Intern

Hi Scott, a great way to recruit a social media intern is to connect with the career services office at a nearby college. Students are always looking for internships and the career offices have distribution lists that spread the word. Also, connecting with people who either teach or practice social media in your area can help, as those people usually know others who are looking to enter the field, or have large networks where they can help spread your message. Hope this helps!

Re: Tile: Meet This New Little Device That Tracks Your Stuff

I was thinking maybe I would get one of these, until I saw that they only last a year! I just downloaded it after reading your post. The only thing I'm not sure about is how it keeps track of where you are in the book, or if you can read multiple books simultaneously (as many do). Great idea to have a 30-day trial membership to get people hooked before they shell out the $9.95/month. Although, seeing that Netflix is only $7.99/month, they might want to revisit their pricepoint. Thanks for sharing :)

Re: 2013 Showdown: Netflix vs. Hulu Plus

I agree, Alix. I have Netflix and Hulu Plus, and as a result, watch very little cable and almost no network TV. With Netflix in talks with Time Warner Cable to come to cable, and the news this weeks that they have more subscribers than HBO, the smart money is on including Netflix in the mix and copying in the model. Thanks for your comment!

Re: What is Instagram and Why Is It So Popular?

Thanks! You choose how much information you include in your bio, and you can block unwanted followers. You are correct, Instagram has grown popular with teens who want to escape their parents on Facebook, but it is also used by professional photographers, major brands and plenty of regular adults. In my opinion, it is better to teach young teens the rules of the internet, and how to stay safe, rather that not allowing them to utilize the same technology many of their friends are using, and that they will surely be using when they get a bit older. Learning how to safely navigate the internet is a lifeskill everyone needs.

Re: What is Instagram and Why Is It So Popular?

Hi Barb, When you use a hashtag (#) on Instagram, twitter or facebook, it makes the post searchable. For instance if I post a photo of my dogs, I sometimes use the #dogsofinstagram tag. That is a known hashtag and people use it to search for photos of dogs. Make sense?

Re: Matt Taibbi Explains the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Cover | Matt Taibbi | Rolling Stone

Thanks for saying so eloquently what I have been thinking all week. I've been a reader of Rolling Stone for 37 years, and would have stopped reading years ago if it was just a magazine about current music. I appreciate the investigative journalism and look forward to that more than anything in each issue.
As you point out, the real problem is that people see this image of Tsarnayev and they can't process it. It doesn't fit their category of 'terrorist' so they don't know what to do with it. So they start squawking on social media (I work in social media so I know) and the whole thing becomes a story - when it is actually not. Most people who are 'freaking out' about this will never read the article, unfortunately. They just like to join the complaining herds and think they're somehow involved with *the news*. People freak out about something every day on twitter...the news media needs to stop covering every freakout that occurs like it's a major story, and focus on actual issues.

Re: Upcoming Webinar: Ethical Social Media Marketing For Lawyers: Tips And Strategies

Will this be recorded so that I can access it after? You had a realization yesterday that I've had on many occasions, both in terms of being a social media professional and as an individual. The power of what we have in our hands is sometimes overwhelming. I believe our future lies in trying to harness these awesome technological advances for the betterment, enlightenment if you will, of humanity. The fact that the Dalai Lama recognizes and understands this power makes me think we're on the right path.

Re: Instagram 3.0: A Cause for Celebration and/or Tears

A primal need indeed. Do you think Timeline is good at that? I'm not a big fan, but maybe over time it will prove itself useful. I guess it all depends how much you share there. Thanks for your comment :)

Re: Instagram 3.0: A Cause for Celebration and/or Tears

I thought that too...SO much like iPhoto and I love that as well. Geotagging is an interesting issue because it really does provide someone who would want to use that information with quite a bit of data about you. So it has its good and bad points, just like almost everyting else on the internet. I actually take way more Instagram photos than I send to Facebook...but for someone like you who has been on FB forever and has tons and tons of photos there, that would really be a nice option. I bet that now they're basically the same company they might just do that. Thanks, Jen!

Re: Instagram 3.0: A Cause for Celebration and/or Tears

I feel your pain, obviously. I did have my foursquare account linked, so I though that the geotagging was enabled. However, I was forever typing in my own locations because I kept getting the message...location disabled (or something to that effect). You would think I would have stopped at some point to investigate. But no, I Instagram in the moment and I never considered what might be coming down the road. I was happy just to be able to flip back and remember all those places and things that I had done. But will I remember where a specific picture was taken 10 years ago? The name of a restaurant may or may not bring back memories of the city where it's located. So now I've enabled geotagging on Instagram...funny that it was litereally the ONLY app on my phone that I had not enabled it. Begin Again. :) Thanks for sharing.
