Why did it take a public outcry to make them add the hate crime charges? It is the perception of law enforcement that LGBT people are of lesser value. Who cares what the assailant's motivations are? He yelled homophobic slurs while stomping on a transgender minor. This man needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Children will needlessly suffer and die and doctors will be jailed if the South Dakota legislature has its way.
This isn't about protecting children. Its about ultra right wing politicians hatred of anyone different from them.

I am very glad that Golden Khan and his accomplice were arrested. But will they be brought to justice for their crimes?
If the past is any indication they won't unless the police are shamed into taking action.

I'm a leftist who served 7 active then 4 in the Guard. What he said has a lot of merit although I'd hate to see the ROTC program hurt. Our best officers came from there.

The WHO just updated their definition of gender disphoria. It is no longer classified as a mental illness as did the latest edition of the DSM.

I serviced under Jimmy Carter, Reagan and Clinton as a HAWK missile firecontrol specialist then when allowed in the Infantry as a Platoon Sergeant. I am deeply proud that I personally helped keep the Warsaw pact off of American shores.

There are thousands of transgender[people like myself who served honorably. I joined the ARMY before DADT I can tell you tRumps ban is worse. Gay people could serve without coming out to the command. I know, I had more than one friend who was gay. It wasn't easy on them but it was doable.
Transgender people do not have that luxury. We come to a point in our lives where we can not deny expressing our true gender.
My heart go's out to all of our active and reserve troops who came out and are now facing this bigot's hateful and spiteful ban.
