I totally had the same problem with throwing up and gassiness. My doctor put him on Prevacid, Im not sure it did anything. We took him off after a month and he seemed to be better, but I think he just finally outgrew his problem. If your baby is gaining weight and growing well, then you're making enough milk. You probably (like me) just hold your milk for longer so you don't have the leakiness that alot of women experience. I thought I wasnt making enough milk either because I never leaked or had the symptoms that my other new mom friends had. But I obviously was making plenty of milk because my baby went from 8 lb, 9 oz at brith to 11 lb, 6 oz at 6 weeks and he is a thriving 20 pounder at 5 months. I still never leaked or became really engorged, its just how my breasts hold the milk.
Books say " breastfeed babies rarely spit up', but my son spat up all the time, no matte what we did. Its just how he was....
I will share one thing that helped us immensely with getting our baby to sleep during his refluxy phase- we put him in the carseat. It kept him upright and he didnt ever wake up screaming and arching his back. We only did that for a few weeks, but it really really helped everyone get some much needed rest. Good luck!

Re: Commonly Asked Questions Answered

Hi. I never had a typical engorgement or leaked either, but I would notice that if I went more than about 4 hours, my breasts would become really hard and if I tried to feed my baby he couldn't get a good latch and he'd also 'choke' on the spray of milk coming out. Maybe try to pump a bit or hand express some milk so your breast gets soft enough for your daughter to get a good latch and not have too much milk come out too quickly. Don't give up on breast feeding, it takes a long time to work things out. My baby had green poop for a while too and the doctor said it was perfectly fine, sometimes their poop will just range from mustardy to a light green. Good luck,.

Re: Commonly Asked Questions Answered

I have a question about introducing rice cereal and solids to my exclusively breastfed 5 month old. I have stayed at home with him since birth and we feed on-demand. At this point, its about every 3 hours since he'll just take a small snack to help him take his naps every 2 hours throughout the day. Up until a month or so ago, I used to have to pump once or twice a day, but then my breasts appeared to have gotten smaller and softer, so I assumed my milk finally just became regulated since my baby was on a more regular napping/feeding schedule than he had been when he was younger.

Now that Im supposed to start rice cereal, I notice that when I try to pump a couple ounces that it is almost impossible for me to pump anything. There doesn't seem to be anything in there, although I know I am still producing milk since my baby often breaks his latch and a big dribble of milk goes down his cheek. And obviously since he's breastfeeding exclusively, if I wasnt making adequate milk, he'd be pretty hungry.

So my questions are: How am I supposed to get breastmilk to make rice ceral if I can't even pump an ounce? Does this mean my milk supply is drying up? How much rice cereal do I give him in replacement of a regular snack?

I had a heck of a time getting my milk established when he was first born and I had to take fennugreek to get it up to speed by the time he was 6 weeks. Should I take a few fennugreek pills now so I can pump a couple extra ounces throughout the day?

BTW: My baby is pretty huge for a 5 month old, 20 lbs and 26 inches. He's not 'fat', he's just solid. So feeding a 20lb baby is probably taking most of what Ive got already..

Thanks!!
