I agree. The road infrastructure is already struggling as it is. Not to the effect that additional housing could have during bushfire evacuations, public transport.... etc

This looks awesome. Wondering whether there would be any communal transport options for people to get out there from Melbourne. I'm thinking of flying over from Adelaide to do this ride.

Surely the unemployment figures here only count the people who are registered as unemployed with Centrelink. How about the people who can't claim benefits from centrelink because they are in relationships where a working partner supports them. Where do these figures come from?

Thank you David Washington for a wonderfully written article. It is my opinion that access to appropriate support services and people's desire to live life a different way is how change will happen and this is a very lengthy process. How do we effectively support people who need a space to be allowed to be?

In 2007 I also set off on a journey to Vanuatu to volunteer through AYAD (the same group that Romany and Susanne went with). I presented at NLS2008 in Melbourne about my experiences. I'm all for keeping it separate. As much as I like teenagers, it's nice to have the choice about whether or not I want to hang out with them.
