Sure, I can find out what Rex is doing at every moment of everyday via his twitter. But do I really care what Rex is doing? Do I really care what anyone is doing at any moment at any point in there day via some digital stream of data?

No for me it's a conversation, a touch on the shoulder, the smell of someone. Digital media has allowed people from all over to connect in a brand new digital way but I think our generation, and the generations to come, will be missing out on some very important social skills that can only come with real human on human interaction.

The world has gotten smaller thanks to the internet. Information that wasn't readily accessible about any number of things is now at our fingertips. But to try and turn social interaction into data can only get you so far. It doesn't matter how many e-hugs you give, they will never be real hugs. It doesn't matter how many neighbors you add in your local social network if you don't know where they live to go knock on their door to ask for a cup of sugar.

The future of the internet and social interaction would be a place like yelp.com. A place where I can research an activity and find like minded people to go do fun things with. That's facilitating human interaction on a physical level and combining digital data with it.
