Having worked at the CC level I suspect we go where we are invited. We made the mistake in Somalia in 93 of going without support and it ended badly. The country has obligations to the UN 1973 resolution. Once again we go where there is support by neighboring countries or else its a waste of time.

So you're saying you're a lawyer without a 401K? ok very interesting.

My point was that The Pres talked about trying to make taxes more equitable. I am saying the reason why he didn't mention taxing dividends is because most pension plans (401k) are now based on investments so by taxing dividends you end up possible affecting the regular guys 401k. I fully agree the tax code needs revision however it isnt exactly that simple. And so things have to be done incrementally which is what POTUS is doing.

Maybe there isn't any daylight between our arguments. I am just supporting the President's plan to try and fix things and to push away cynical progressives who are never happy.

Most pensions are now defined contribution and not defined benefits taxing dividends too steeply would negatively affect the middle class.

And if I'm not mistaken the speech's main point was to change the tax code applied to the rich, unless I heard wrong?!?

You are saying the problems arent worth engaging unless you can fix everything thats wrong. That argument gets nothing done because it doesn't recognize incremental change. Plus your argument has no factual basis but rather the idea that the buggy man is in closet and though we haven't seen him he is there so be scared.

I don't want to make this personal but what are your qualification or better yet the evidence to support your argument? Teach me, please.

Name the specific part that hurt the working poor? Most of the programs that were cut were left overs because of other legislators.

Ed is cool and all, but he is not poor. Show people that are actually affected not theoretically affected. Look at the programs that were saved. The world s not going to end. The budget is until September, the fight goes on.

Stop reading articles and actually look at the website for children healthcare (each state). Then you tell me which parent can't afford healthcare for their children in 2011. You check all the laws passed and you will see that in most situation all it takes is for parents to fill out paperwork to prove that their child is a citizen. Bottom line there is no excuse in 2011 not to get your child insured.

Please show me an instant this year where a parent absolutely cant afford to fill out paperwork for these social programs.

With all the programs now to provide health insurance (state and federal) for children that has to be the parents fault. I experienced a case where the parent didn't take advantage of the programs, but was so upset when the child got sick. "lead a horse to water but you can make them drink"

Ed inflates quite a bit. All indications are that the POTUS settlement was part genius. Only the so called "progressives" like huffingtonpost aren't pleased.

"For example, $1.7 billion left over from the 2010 census; $3.5 billion in unused children's health insurance funds; $2.2 billion in subsidies for health insurance co-ops (that's something the president's new health care law is going to fund anyway); and $2.5 billion from highway programs that can't be spent because of restrictions set by other legislation."
