You have some interesting things going on.

Re: Twitter: A community or a utility?

Interesting Issue Mathew. I know I am late to the party but its never to late to drop your 2 cents in..

"In other words, Twitter wants to be treated the same as a “common carrier” such as a telephone company, which isn’t liable for the content it carries."

How can they take any other view?

If someone texts an insult to me on my mobile phone, I delete it & I block them. If they continue to do it to a point where I am threatened by their behavior I report them to the police. Not the phone carrier?

Why would anyone assume twitter to be any different?

But then again if I see an advertisement in the newspaper for a property to rent. I visit the property and I rent it.

Months later the balcony collapses due to it being faulty and it is also discovered that it was an illegal structure. Would the news paper who published the add for this dwelling be liable for having introduced me to it should I sustain serious injury?

I mean, had I not read the paper I would not have been introduced to the landlord and not moved into a situation where I was endangered by a faulty, illegal building structure.

Or

As the publisher of the paper are they little more than a carrier for anyone to publish any advertisements in, true or false?

Where is the line drawn?

I think you will find the law would take a view that the paper was liable only if a representative of the paper had actually visited the property and seen first hand that the balcony was faulty and potentially illegal.

If after seeing it and knowing this they still ran the advert they could be deemed liable.

Drawing parallels here if the decision makers at twitter knew the offensive taunts were occurring & refused to act, would they be liable if the recipient of these taunts was caused suffering?

Love to hear others take this one. It's a very interesting topic considering the internet still has international law makers scratching their heads after how many years now.

Re: louisgray.com: It Still Has That New iPhone 3G Smell

I can relate to this post. Sort of got me thinking about Apple's marketing and launch strategies - I love the fact how they can make everything from visiting retail stores, opening the packaging all the way to syncing up data an experience of its own kind. Each step becomes a mini event in its own - and its fascinating to see how each event adds up to tell the entire experience story. Have fun with the phone!

Re: 10 reasons why every company should host virtual events

I agree with you on reliability being another important element - we all see thousands of dollars going into contingency plans just to ensure reliability..

Virtual events will probably not completely replace live physical events in the near future, but their presence will definitely become more evident as the social media scape expands. We're already seeing how companies are going virtual for selected types of events.

How do you think this will change the event marketing space though? Should event marketers also provide solutions to virtual events, or do you believe the whole industry will evolve in its own due course?

Re: Making Friends in the online Social Networks

Jeff. That's why we need to excel at the art of listening to be able to communicate better - just like in real life.

Moving on to mobile content was just the expected next step in cross syndication - the way we can integrate all of our social networks together online and on mobile devices is fascinating. In fact in internet marketing, I would expect people to advertise and monetize on friendfeed updates syndicated onto websites rather than just SEO'd ads. Just a thought. When I first met Nigel I knew that I was in the company of sharp mind, at no stage did he ever attempt to impress this upon me.

Weeks later I was handed his resume. Half of one A4 sheet of paper. It was the most impressive resume I had ever seen because of the positions he had held. This in itself was a great lesson... The more you achieve in business the less words you need to describe it.

Nigel's insights, his view on business, people, economies and governments was at such a high level that my views would always change when in his company without him ever trying to change them...

Nigel is someone I still turn to when faced with tough decisions...

It's great to see you here Nigel...

Thanks for your support...

Re: Measuring event branding through online social interaction

We would love to hear some of your thoughts on event branding Zacheos..

Re: Tribalism - Speaking the lingo

Thanks El Numero Juan...
I wouldn't say effortless but for those of us prepared to invest our time into learning what works.... building a successful community of listeners will happen....

Re: Tribalism - Speaking the lingo

Axel, you would find the conversation I have going in Facebook on this post very interesting...

I have summarized it in one of my posts off the conversation string which I will post here for my blog readers to see...

The link to the note in Facebook is here;

http://www.facebook.com/inb...

Re: Tribalism - Speaking the lingo

This is a comment I made in a conversation currently taking place in Facebook notes. What would become of my thoughts? What brought this small tribe together in a way that facilitated each of you wanting to add value to not just my thoughts, but one and others thoughts?

@ Effrim you say it's familiarity, that birds of a feather stick together, you asked us to think about exclusion.

@ Ian you introduced the exploration of new frontiers. That we are attracted to a prospect of exploring thought processes together to facilitate connections between like minded tribes people.

@ Serenity You suggested communication. That the fluency in the communicative message for mass comprehension play's it's roll in attracting tribes people.

@ Carey you raised some interesting points on how commercialization changes the dynamics of tribalism. That money depersonalizes otherwise personable relationships. You also suggest that the online networking juggernaut may be in need of a correction along with wall street. That we need to bounce back towards a place where we must look our contacts in the eye once in a while for them to count..

@ Susan you introduced education, or better access to it as a predominant factor in the shifting dynamics of tribalism.

@ Scott you raised the concept of value. That people will congregate where they perceive an opportunity to enjoy value.

@ Sam you spun the conversation into a new direction by introducing "connectors", tribal leadership as the influencing factor when it comes to tribalism.

@ Scott picked up on this swing by adding a quote from a well known tribal leader, reinforcing a view that visionaries with good communication skills define the qualities a tribal "connector" must have to lead a tribe.

@ Ian introduced another well known leader, introducing their views on what qualities a "connector" require to lead...

@ SunGoddess Introduced a entirely new perspective out of left field, indicating that belonging to a group (tribe) actually limits her growth as an individual.

@ Ziona pointed the conversation back towards the topic of language, raising background, culture and life experiences as determinants of how individuals perceive our written language and backed it up by pointing out the different ways people in this tribe interpreted the initial post.

Whats interesting here is how everyone has added value to this conversation, not one person contributed a similar view. The people who have contributed are intelligent thought leaders in their own right, their views represent value. I feel this is what ultimately underpins the value in participating in the conversation for all of us.

My mentor in business would say;

"The population is made up of a few goats and a lot of sheep. Goats are animals that like to find their own way. Sheep like to follow the crowd".

"Shepard’s are capable of influence a few goats, who will lead the sheep into following them"

Thank you to all of you for adding such great value to my post...

SF

Re: Never stop building lists

Absolutely Carey...

I think the trick is to get people listening to you firstly. To do this you need to represent value to them. The only way you can know what an audience considers valuable is by listening to them first. So before you can represent value you must first understand what your audience considers valuable.

Once you have an audience that is convinced they will enjoy value by listening to you, it's time to engage them into conversations geared to decipher who's who in the zoo.

You want to determine of your leads which people are most likely to invest in a long term commercial relationship with you as your customer. You need to filter these people out of your leads list into a new list so you can change the tone of the campaign or conversation.

Once confirmed customers the tone should change again, these people are now your livelihood.

Re: The Pizza Store Dilemma

Hi Jennie, Google has a great feedreader for free... I don't think the principles of business or marketing have changed a great deal....it's just our communication platforms have changed...

These platforms will keep changing too...in a direction that takes us closer and closer to facilitating what we all do offline....people, relationships, trust and respect = good business.

We can just do it to a global audience now and will continue to be able to do so even more efficiently as technology evolves...It's not brain science...

Re: Why listen to me?

Hey Andr'e ... that's great feedback my friend...if I have got you thinking it makes everything I do worth it ...hearing you say that inspires me....<-; the launch phase hots up this week leading into next Wednesday's book launch...the book launch will piggy back our application launch towards the end of November.... absolutely, line up your house captains and be sure to collect their email addresses and skype contacts...invite them into these conversations so that we are all on the same page by next Wednesday... keep watching this space..<-;
