By Mr. King's reasoning, I guess all kids who grow up in the state of Hawaii are not "real" Americans. Also any kid who ever lived out of the country for a few years in grade school------like John McCain-------and all the other kids who follow their parents around the world for work; like the kids who are stationed with their military parents. Because ya know, the only real Americans are from Kansas. Iowa doesn't count Steve. Geesh.

Far too many Americans are afraid. We seem to have become a nation of cowards in the face of anything that we find scary. And we find far too many things scary. We have large groups of Christian adults surrounding buses of immigrant children shouting that these kids aren't our problem. We started a war with Iraq, without any true evidence that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11, because we were afraid. We don't believe in torture in America------but we tortured people. Because we were afraid. Grown men carry assault rifles slung across their backs in grocery stores and restaurants---because they're afraid that if they don't carry a big gun, somebody will get them. Because they're afraid. Are we really willing to accept the idea of being a nation of chicken hearts? Not me! I'm still willing to accept the risk of buying groceries and going out to dinner without a gun. And I'm not willing to march outside the isolation wards in American hospitals. What a bunch of chickens. Time to man up America! Nobility and character aren't just words. They're actions.

If Miss Amerca went on her year long tour and announced that she gets drunk every night an that you can bid on her virginity on Ebay, would the Miss America corporation have the right to choose not to let her represent them? I think so. Nobody ever heard of this guy without the TV show. He was being interviewed by a major magazine BECAUSE he represents the show and the network. He was out of line. If he wants to get out show business or finance his own show, then he can say whatever he wants on his own dime. In the meantime, he's representing a business financed with other people's money and he's getting a small fortune for doing so.

Are these the same people who shot Paula Deen down for something she said 20 years ago? But this guy says something worse in the present and a two week vacation I fair? He said that all the blacks in the South during Jim Crow were happy, singing and not fussing or complaining when they couldn't vote or eat in a café or go to the bathroom in a toilet while traveling. That doesn't even touch his comments on "vagina" vs. "anus".

Fidelity Mutual, which is the biggest of it's kind, has decided that the Republican party is going to do it. They sold off all their U.S. government debt today. If the Republican party does default on our nation's debts, I guess we'll find out who was right. If they tank the economy of the entire world, again, that will be the end of the Republican party. Forever.

The U.N. security counsel is meaningless as an agency to protect populations from brutal dictators. China and Russia protect every one of them. Ban Ki-Moon may be right. But I think that if nothing is done, there will be a lot more Sarin used. Two names to think of: Chamberlain and Hitler. Babying vicious dictators has never been an effective strategy. 500 children were killed with poison Sarin gas. Half as many people died in that attack as died on 9/11 and look at all we have done in response to that. Will we wait until 5,000 children are killed? 10,000? What is our limit for the death of other people's children?

They want abortions to be very early if they are to happen at all-------and then they make it harder to do it early. So more women will have abortions at 18 weeks instead of 6. I hope they're happy.

IMO, he did a terrible thing and if he ends up only serving 8 years, that will be a huge injustice. He should serve serious time for a serious crime against his country. I love my country. I didn't vote him in to be the judge and jury over my nations international relations and I don't want every troubled private in the army to think he can do the same and all will be forgiven.

Mistreated is perhaps a more measured description than your choice of words with torture. Nobody hit him or pulled his fingernails out. He was on suicide watch for an extended period of time and it wasn't nice but he wasn't tortured.

I think it's long over due. They should be on recordings and the public should be able to record with cell phones too. Accountability is crucial. There is no doubt that some officers are rougher than is professional and it also protects the good cops from false accusations. I think it is terribly important that Americans be given better cause to trust the police and that is worth the cost.

I come to this site every day and I don't love Bradley Manning. I think he betrayed his country and stole things he didn't understand and in the process caused a lot of international trouble for America. I don't trust every young kid with a computer job to decide what's best for America. I agree that sometimes our government does things I don't approve of but I don't think that the Bradley Mannings are the answer. I think he should go to jail for a good long while. But I don't think they should have held him naked in a cell for months. That was just the military being jerks. IMO.
