They'd be one of the reasons I don't read the Huffington Post, aye. There are objective standards for what is racist that have nothing to do with what individuals (especially privileged individuals) feel is offensive or inoffensive. That pulling on the eyes bullshit is racist and it's not like that's a revolutionary concept. I don't give a fuck if nobody at the party wasn't offended or if half the people at HuffPo weren't offended or how many Representative Asian Persons Toby Keith's record label quotes as saying it was all just in clean white fun. It's still racist. Defending it is still reinforcing corrupt and bigoted power structures in which privilege redefines accountability and responsibility into something unrecognizable as either.

And I'm so sick of people throwing around "I don't care if someone's purple" as evidence they're not racist. It always seems to indicate a whole lot of unexamined just-beneath-the-surface bigotry that oozes out all over the place.

I know that men using deception to get close to women is a very scary thing and one that does happen.

Yes, men do use deception as a weapon of coercion against women. So far I've never encountered a documented case of a man falsely presenting himself as a trans woman to do so. But this is the stated objection against our asserting rights to existence and self-identification. And to piss in safety and quiet just like anyone else.

Yes. It's not like there isn't plenty of violence against women in the English-speaking world. Nor has it been very long since certain classes of women (and some men) were sterilized without their knowledge or consent as a matter of policy. The sterilization of women with disabilities in residential and institutional settings is sometimes justified as a protective measure since women are often raped by caregivers, especially women with communication impairments.

And I don't know what to call The Ashley Treatment if it isn't violence.

Violence against women is by no means something that only happens far away, committed by safely different looking and sounding people. It's right here, right now.

It's still in development and it'll be a while before it's even in beta release, but I'm fair excited about The Secret World. And there's been some interest from the nice people at Iris Gaming Network (Shaker eleniel is a writer of good stuff there) in maybe putting together a feminist cabal. Which is what they're calling guilds, but cabal sounds just too fun. I will have to talk about it on the phone in public. "Uh-huh. Yeah. Feminist cabal meeting Tuesday at six. Of course you can come armed, it's a dangerous world out there."

Dr. Bowers and Clitoraid are amazing. The article... I twitch every time I see 'circumcision' used to describe female genital cutting as if there were some sort of moral and anatomical equivalence to male circumcision.* I wish I could feel something other than bleak.

* Not that some men and boys aren't mutilated by circumcision, nor that there are never mistakes nor complications. But removal of the genitalia is not the intent of male circumcision the way female genital cutting is. Castration and penectomy would be equivalent.

Even when there is discussion about the oppression of women in broader society it is diminished and dismissed by its relationship to the male experience.

Because, what does it say about me, about what I've internalized about the acceptability of violence? What does it say about my humanity? Yes, it's understandable how I feel (or don't feel).

It says you're human. And like anything else we do, violence is complicated. Sometimes there isn't a viable alternative to meeting violence offered with violence -- there isn't time or those offering violence aren't amenable to being swayed by nonviolent means. And nonviolent resistance, while often successful over the long term for a people, can be bitterly hard for the individuals within that group who suffer threats, beatings, torture, death during the campaigns.

We tell children 'violence won't solve anything' with words while everything else about our culture tells them that violence solves everything. So of course we're conflicted.

In Texas K-12 schools, John Brown is portrayed flatly as a murderer and a terrorist, and all sorts of reasons for what is strongly hinted to have been the Union's aggression against the CSA *coughFortSumtercough* are proffered to avoid acknowledging that yeah it really was about slavery. Nuance and accuracy are not exactly encouraged.

That thing about history being written by the victors? White southerners may have lost the war, but they won the Reconstruction.

It's one thing for me to come out as trans (often in context of being legally married). When you do it, you fucking gossip*, you are putting my life at risk without my consent. It makes me grumpy.
