The recent "Whale Wars" episode of South Park sparked quite a few exploratory conversations, as well. That led to some interesting chats with a couple of my Japanese friends. I can't say that anyone necessarily changed their viewpoints, but it was definitely enlightening to look at the subject through a different set of cultural eyes. And I was very surprised by who held held which stance on the topic! Further proof that there really isn't "normal," as much as there is "what is normal to me."

Re: Rainbow Hill

I wasn't terribly impressed with the author's original post. But that might be the longest hyphenated description I've seen in a long time!

Re: About

Interesting profile- I'm 41, returning to school to get my first bachelor's degree and studying Japanese. I also had my first trip to Japan recently, in April 09, with my teenage daughter. It's nice running into your blog; gives me hope and encourages me that I'm not the only "old" person tackling a "young" person challenge. Best of luck for your success!
