With that said, I also suspect there will also be more opportunities to try out other "new-to-me" things once our current project is finished.

Re: Church, Family, and Choice

I would challenge that as a cultural/societal notion, one that isn't necessarily based in Scripture. Can you find support for this idea in the Bible or ecclesiology?

Re: O the Snail

Everything (seat, gloves, bed) was his idea. Insisted on it in fact.

Re: Play Ball!

Of course, I never played softball with you John, but my guess is you were the type of player that was internally competitive, ie, you were hard on yourself when you screwed up, but not as hard on others. It's the people that affect others with their comptetivness (chastising them for a mistake or whatnot) that annoy me.

Re: When bad music happens to a good God

My my, what a bunch of kill-joys. Heaven forbid you should move or make motions to a song, or enjoy an emotional experience. Granted, there are some lackluster songs listed above, but the comments all sounds WASP-ish (well, perhaps not the "P") and stiff.

I understand that certain types of music will not appeal to everyone, and yet I'd hope there would be some understanding that one person's trash is anothers treasure. We ought to encourage each other and rejoice in the diversity of church music.

Those of you steeped in Bach and Mozart, seek out a local gospel choir or join your church's youth group in their praise times. Get involved and (as Atticus Finch would say), "never judge anyone, until you have been in their shoes, and walked around in them."

Re: Passion Musings

Egads, you've discovered me! No, I don't have a Catholic background per se. I do, however, have several Catholic friends whom I converse with on a regular basis. I also have my art background, which has translated into a strong intererst in icons in the Orthodox and Catholic traditions. I guess point #1 might be more of an art major vs. Catholic/Protestant thing. It does raise the interesting question (which I've pondered quite a bit) about whether or not Catholic/Orthodox worshippers are generally more advanced in their understanding of visual communication. Why would they be? Because the visual element is a strong part of their worship experience, whereas it's been largely missing from the Protestant experience due to our history of iconoclasm.

Re: Jetsons, Ho!

I have a sister?

Re: Skiing and Plan B

Oh better than that--we've got video (evil grin). Now I've actually got something to post to the video page. Unfortunately, the best stuff was Calvin's very first run, which Dad got on video, so we'll have to wait until I can get that from him.
