I am familiar. The fact of the matter is that the nonprofit was started BECAUSE the City was failing to step up and secure the park. Citizens shouldn't be mobilizing on their own to fill in where the City lacks. It was never part of the agreement when the park was created and we cannot continue to rely on stop gap measures for locals to fund every public park in this city.

I really wish the people downvoting this comment could live next to one of these terribly managed parks for a single week. The intention of a green space is great, but until the City can prove that they can upkeep the ones that are deteriorating, they do not have the right to do ribbon cuttings on any more. More money, more accountability -- whatever, just show us change.

Speaking as a resident living next to Spring Street Park, I can unequivocally say that the City does not take care of its parks. If our park is any indication, it'll only become a magnet for nefarious acts and the City nor Parks & Rec will dedicate resources to keeping it clean nor policing open air drug trade. Don't let them build another abandoned park despite their empty promises of upkeep. Take a look at literally every park in DTLA and decide if you want the same. Stop dreaming of "green space" it's not reality.
