In short, I picked a really bad weekend, the first of summer, and we will move at least a few weeks further back into the summer.
Locally we've seen a bit of decline on 40K with 6th, and 40K has never seen a similar decline locally before.
We're putting together a survey for all the players, and we'll report on any other causes that we gather from it as well.

Re: Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

We are fortunate that the great folks at Battlefront bring their museum-quality boards and terrain sets for the Nationals event every year. Flames of War is one of the best balanced rulesets as well, and it's great fun for history buffs (like me).

Re: Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

Double flamers to burn things more. I used them to wrap up Belial and CO in game 1, defend the bottom of the tower in game 2, shield the Kroot in game 3, harrass Obliterators in game 4, and get shot to death in game 5. Cheap maneuverable units are really useful, it turns out.

Re: Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

No Skyfire for the Drones. No BS 5 for the Missile Drones (I did screw that up in practice games before Alamo, though).

Re: Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

I think transports and 48" range shooting placed out past 42" is a pretty effective counter to Tau, who now don't really outshoot most armies outside of 36". You had a good solid army, and variations of that army were deadly killers in 5e right before Grey Knights (and not bad after).

Re: Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

I rolled my warlord trait on the table; that I got one that was horrible for him was somehow fitting and an accurate portent of how the game was to unfold. Kroot shooting down a Storm Raven and killing the Dreadnought on board was definitely hilarious.

Re: WargamesCon 2013 - Convergence/Privateer Arrivals! | Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

You do realize that we play inside where the magic of air conditioning means the temperature is very nice. We did get rid of the food service downstairs so that we would have more space, but that space will be pretty easily filled by the demos and we'll need more for other new stuff.

Re: Terminus Est: BeakyCon2 Final Report

Sorry that I couldn't make it over this year. I am finding that the Valkyrie being harder to hit makes it almost completely uninteresting as a target, and the Vendetta's firepower still draws a fair amount of bullets, reducing it's value for how I like to use them. Vendettas are amazing fighter craft, for sure.

Re: 40K: A Dirty Dozen Imperial Guard Observations | Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

"That was a thousand reps I just finished doing."

Re: 40K: A Dirty Dozen Imperial Guard Observations | Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

They do fine behind a section of Aegis line, and they're great for killing off special weapons.

Re: Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

Very nicely done, euansmith! I think some portion of the players out there will be looking for broken combos that suck to play against. If I post some of those combos for everyone to see, then those who don't want to play broken stuff will at least be forewarned of some potential bad things.
I personally tend to avoid things that I think are very unfair / unfun on the table. My psyker battle squad that I converted never got painted or played after I saw how ugly they are to play against. My Coteaz henchman army is in pieces in boxes - never took that out, either.
I think information, even information about things you find unsavory, is better disseminated to everyone, not held as dirty secrets.

Re: Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

Azrael and Jacobus could join a single blob in a team game, though, which is how I have it written.

Re: Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, Wargames & Miniatures News: Bell of Lost Souls

Good catch on the Chaplains; not sure how I missed that and on Wolf Priests as well.
