I have been preaching this since 2009 and it finally seems to have gained mainstream with many businesses. Many are still behind the curve. If the businesses keep focusing on ROI of social media, they may get a wake up call over the next few years because they have just been slapped in their face with ROI (The return of ignoring) social business. I couldn't agree more. Our hearts have always been in the right place- and we have had a similar outlook on things since that sunny day in Carlsbad when we met for coffee where we began to embark on the social media for business journey (I remember it like it was yesterday). Who would of thought our influence would grow (especially yours :) and continue to be the "GPS" for many other up and coming business consultants. Not to mention all the FREE advice we've given for businesses trying to navigate through the social media ocean. One thing is for certain- when businesses are ready to "invest" in social media- we will be there to give them results. Cheers

Re: Planning a Business

Love the idea Chris- i couldn't agree more. Us in the social media space can only scale so much of our knowledge with speaking engagements, workshops, blogs, books, etc. But business pro's want more- tactics- executables, be held accountable, and on-going, which is why I am currently working on some BIG things right now with continuing education for the business community- a forum of some sort- would love some feedback from you possibly?? :) Cheers

Re: Video: The Great Advertising Disconnect? Time - Time - Time and businesses need to understand this more. What I have seen in the trenches of social media for the last 2 years is very simple: Social Media Marketing is 20 times cheaper thank paid advertising, customer acquisition is cheaper than paid, AND the conversion rates are much higher because of the TRUST factor with the community.

Re: Seth Godin is Getting Shorter

right you are Chris. Funny, i was tweeting a message the other day "I wish twitter could replace email! Agree or disagree?" the fact that it forces simplified communication is huge when working in teams. Here are some additional observations and trends I am seeing as well:

1. Social influence becomes monetized even more and companies start identifying key brand advocates and compensating them

2. Businesses begin being 100% on the cloud

3. Online advertising shifts into affiliate advertising

4. Social media consulting has certification programs (modeled after microsoft and cisco, but with marketing emphasis of course)

5. Trust, transparency, and tactics used to emphasize these to your target audience will still be key, but companies will try to shift into a Zappos type culture if they want to remain competitive and if they have a similar business model as them (hence online retail)

These are just a few of my ideas, hope you enjoy.
