I agree with Eppie Wilson. Drunk driving on this island appears to be prevalent. Adults need to take responsibility for their drinking and not drive. Repeat offenders especially. Why aren't all of the drunk driving accidents and arrests reported in the Beachcomber. It would be nice to be kept informed of this pertinent information.

Funny how upset people were about the liquor store moving, but are defending the sign. Island Lumber has a history of just acting on their own without actually thinking about we would like, which is why I don't shop there. I support Ace Hardware (go off island if they don't have what I need). The sign is ugly, obnoxious and out of place on the island, but I am not interested in censoring it. If you don't like signs in front Giraffe or billboard ad at Thriftway or the ugly sign at Island Lumber take your business elsewhere.

It would be great if the Beachcomber brought back the police blotter each and every week. Not the random month old version. What kind of car? Perhaps the public can help the police find the culprit .

Doesn't say much for our local kids if they wouldn't go to a dance because they weren't allowed to dance in a particular style. If it is as meaningless and non-sexual as stated above, then why is it the end all be all for this group of kids. Besides its been around for awhile, why don't they work on a new dance style to call their own instead of carrying on this one. Dances like the Twist phased out.

I think a small portion of the teachers are in a position to offer morale guidance to our children based on their personal choices. This could be drinking, drugs or affairs. There are a few bad teachers that like parents lead our children by example whether they want to or not.

The park district has plenty of funds. They were able to afford signing the interlocal agreement and add yet another staff member. They venture into many non-park related activities. They take our tax dollars, charge us for use, accept grant funds and have many fundraisers. They always have the funds when they want it.

Give the money to the schools. Now is not the time to increase the tax burden.

VPD always magically has the funds to take on the new projects and staff. They take on additional causes (not all part of the mission of the park district) and then ask for permission and extra funds later. We pay a lot in taxes, we pay to participate, they get grants and hold fund raisers. They are doing ok.

Send the funds to the school district, it is needed more there at this point in time.

We can vote yes for the school levy or the park district levy, but not both. Both is just too much. I chose the school.

I appreciate the Vashon Park District jumping into try and help, but we haven't voted on the levy yet. In a recent article it was written that they need to ask for more money because they already agreed to take on the school fields,etc and need the additional funds to stay afloat. Either the park district has the funds for the this or they don't. VPD should not take on any additional services if they don't have the funds. I don't want to be asked for more.

I will be voting against the levy until the park district has more consistent fiscal decisions. I think it is time the Executive Director is replaced. 20 + years is impressive, but she seems to be spreading the department too thin and not fixing problems that already exist, such as the caretaker house at Paradise Ridge. The fiscal messages from management and the board are mixed.

Don't take on what you already can't already afford. Don't count on us to keep bailing you out with more taxes. I can vote for the schools or I can vote for the park district. I choose the school.

Perhaps if the parents stopped smokig marijuana the kids might take the say no to drugs message seriously. As long as the large number of adult drug users and drunk drivers get away with it, we as a community are sending mixed messages to our kids.
