Tell that to the garbage man who picks up your trash. What would we do without his services? according to you he's under-skilled and does not deserve a day off with his family.
Where would we be if there was no one to run the register because they were ALL too highly educated? We may not all have the same skills and education, but everyone deserves to be respected for the role they play in society...as small or as grand as it may be.

I would fully support employees that wanted to voluntarily work the holiday, key word being VOLUNTARY. But that doesn't happen because Walmart can't run it's stores with a skeleton crew for 24 hours, let alone the busiest shopping day of the year.
You're right about one thing. Some families are fortunate enough to be able to see each other on a "continuous basis" but you're forgetting that some families can't. Perhaps they counted on the two days when everyone was off work and could plan to travel sometimes hundreds of miles to be together. Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I know, neither does mine. But we still accumulate trash that needs to be picked up. Because of the Holiday we know the pick-up will be delayed, right...especially if the scheduled pick-up falls on the Holiday? A minor inconvenience for us, maybe, but we make due. Black Friday sales can also wait.
Let the employees have a day to spend with their families.
