I think she should file a police report. Sexual battery is a crime. Being vocal about it is her prerogative.

I agree with you that I'll probably only get married, too, because of legal benefits associated with it. However, the vast majority of people still view it as a religious / symbolic institution. This is just reality, and it's kind of counter-productive to argue against these values. Everyone should have the right to get married for whatever reason they want.

#2 paypal still has really freaking high fees and it's not really worth using unless you have a decent sized transaction. I will look into the other things you suggest! I would also be interested in reading the article that you refer to about #15, so find it, please. Also, I want to see your list and Arvind's list!

They try to optimize profits / shareholder value, though. The argument for huge bonuses is that talented executives would leave and go to another company if they didn't get huge compensations. Yeah, that's the argument. I mean, obviously shareholders will notice. Whether it actually works in retaining talent, in practice, is a whole different story.

But you're right, this may not be that much worse... but they still shouldn't be able to do it :) Just because the system is already broken doesn't justify making it even more broken :)

Thanks! This was actually a semi-serious post about hyper-local marketing (ugh, I hate that term!) apps... or lack thereof.

But yeah, Girl Scout cookies are yummy! After I posted this, an iPhone developer I know actually told me that Girl Scouts of America hit him up to make an app for this back in Oklahoma. Maybe there is hope after all! :)

Yeah, we are definitely are incorporating the charities' goals for the year / progress towards them in the project. I also think that measuring effectiveness by tangible impact is more telling than measuring effectiveness by percentage contributing to programs vs. administration costs. A charity can contribute 99% of donations to programs but still be horribly inefficient with execution.

Thus, we're trying to focus on things like say... # of meals that can be provided, # of bed nets that can be purchased, etc. for each dollar that is donated. One can argue that the more a charity cares about their employees, the more tangible impact they will be able to have in the long run. This information, of course, especially is a pain to find.

The problem with Charity Navigator percentages is that they are not specific to particular events. So here, it shows that UNICEF donates 90% to programs, but they have a special clause for this specific event. I do agree, though, that (in general) Charity Navigator is a great resource. However, sometimes it feels a little too heavy because there are waaay too many search results to look through.
