But you forgot to include one of yourself! Loved you in the grey dress in the Guardian article by the way - Is that belt silver or grey? My most favorite outfit in quite a while, especially the way you rocked those shoes! Keep it going.....

Re: 131 / ootd: velvety goodness

I love this, especially the GREY, which is this hot color, but surprisingly difficult to find. I appreciate your attitude - I love the "bodycon" fit - you looked curvy, which is supposed to be the point. I would definitely wear this dress, though it would be hard to look as fab as you.

Re: 127 / marie claire's new 'big girl in a skinny world' column

THANK YOU! You echoed my sentiments. I'm happy to see the column since I've subscribed to MC for years, but was disapointed with the visuals, including her outfit on the page. I hope that she reads your blog!

Re the jeans, I'm 5'9 and I like Ralph Lauren. Retail is pricey - $95 - but I always buy them on sale at macys or NOrdstrom rack - I got some black ones (straight leg) at Macys this summer for $18. I've never paid more than $30. My hips are medium but I have middleaged stomach and they fit well. Jeans, patent boots, leather bustier - the perfect winter evening outfit!

Re: 104 / etsy love: prizy sebastian

She does look stunning - elegant, sophisticated and expensive! BTW, your NYFW commentary is wonderful - better than any that I've seen onthe Vogue/InStyle or Harpers websites.

Re: 097 / store spotlight: simply be

I would trade this store for LB in a hearbeat - they are what LB aspires to be. It's true that the clothes aren't that avant-garde, but they are fashionable and reflect the type of modern fashion that plus size stores almost always lack. I saw at least 5 pieces that I would buy today. Thanks for posting this

Re: 089 / store surprises!

I am REALLY curious about what you found at LB. I almost never buy anything there except the occasional belts and bras. I did see a cute ruffled denim skirt on the their website, but it was too expensive for them - $44!
To answer your question, i found some brown suede kitten heel boots at Ann Taylor on clearance for $20 a few years back. I was with a friend - I never go in Ann Taylor since they don't have my size.
I also often find great things at Ross, Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack but I guess that's not really out of the way, since all have plus sizes. I keep planning to try good will though.

Re: 079 / elena miro fall 2009

Sorry for the mulitple postings, the network had some kind of hiccup. Anyway, just wanted to say that the dresses are so wonderful and just what I've been looking for - work dresses that are not dowdy but still appropriate for a corporate environment are so hard to find. I'm sad that they can now be found but I can't really afford them. Does any know if they have an outlet?!

Re: 079 / elena miro fall 2009

Okay, I need to lay down now. My former goal was not to buy any boots this year, it being a recession and all, but if someone can find me a pair of thigh highs........well, rules are made to be broken and it's only money, right? I'm with Gabi, I so love the high boots and mini w/tights - I need that. And if I can also find a boot that is a color - I only have black, brown and a kitten heel taupe. HELP ME.

Re: Leather and Lace

I have the leather addiction also! My current obsession is a yellow one - I have black, white, green, red and 2 brown ones - one that has a ruffle around the bottom and the sleeve. Love your style and that you're from the West Coast! Most of the fashion blogs I read are EC. You have great style - will be a regular reader.

Re: 036: Fat Hate vs. Fat Acceptance

I'm glad that you started this conversation, hope that it continues in other quarters. All extremes - those that say someone like Jordin Sparks is "obese" as well as those who think that it's heinous to lose weight need to get a grip. You can still "hold it down for the big girls" as one respondent said and lose weight - because she's still a big girl. I would hope that the point is being allowed to be happy at whatever size you are.
I admit that I go round on this topic too - I lost 25 pounds last year - bascially went from 24 to 20 - and the reactions were so odd. People assume that I did it because I have some dire health condition - diabetes or something - and I don't. I have very low cholesterol levels, no high blood pressure (never have, although they always take my blood pressure 2 or 3 times at the doctor just to make sure that the reading is correct). But I am getting older, and it's hard to ignore everything that suggests being "heavy" and middle aged will hare dire consequences. I exercise periodically and I really think that's more important than thet numbers.
Anyway, I have always thought I looked good and always will - isn't that the point?
BTW, the blog is wonderful and btw, did you check Nordstrom's or Macys for light colored tights? They have some cream and also white iin the HUE brand that go to 4x and 5x - not sure what size you wear. Just plain though, no patterns - I am so annoyed at the inability to find some pattern, light colored tights, I want to slap somebody. It might be hot outside, but the airconditioing is on insidde people! It is a conspiracy to keep me in pants, I swear.

Re: 034: Is Fashion Motivation for Weight Loss?

Every woman that I know has body issues, regardless of whether she's a size 6, 16, 26 or something else. If it's not weight - feeling either too big or too small - it's feeling too busty or not busty enough or some other such nonsense. The emphasis has to be on being healthy and then moving on from there. If women want to lose weight for fashion, it's usually because fashion is not available in their size. I want the fabulous clothes to come in my size - always have - but I have tried, in my middle aged years, to focus on health, and exercise because of that. My dieting to a size 12 won't solve the problem because there will still be fashion lines with great clothes that are not available to me. It makes me want to take a long nap.

Re: 032: I Wish Upon A Star...

I loved everything you posted too, and wish that fatshionistas had those kind of options. It's so frustrating that all of the standard plus fashion options take our business for granted and never feel the need to do anything more. Sad to say, I don't know what our options are. I'm old enough to remember when there were almost no options, unless you sewed, so I can see there's been progress, but now it's like we're at a standstill or even moving a tiny bit backwards. I remember when Vogue had an actual plus size feature - I think it was about 50 pages - in the 80s and I thought that things wer finally moving forward. But now, it's like we're dead in the water. I can't even find an f-ing real leather patent belt unless I have it custom made - WTF.

I want better made, more high style options! While I wish that Torrid had existed when I was a teen, I'm not their demographic. I actually think that htet "junior plus" options are not too bad. What I need are what someone below described as sexy work looks, but not too sexy. I want fitted skits perhps occasionally with some origami details, flat front slacks in some interesting textures and cuts, blouses that don't look like they came from Sears in the 80s and YES, some great coats with leather options. I've been looking for a wonderful, well made leather trench coat for ages.

Oh, BTW, the blog is wonderful wonderful wonderful - I just discovered it a month or so ago and am a big fan.

Re: 019: Faith21 Review

This WAS helpful, particularly the pics. I actually like the blk/wh kimono dress - I could wear it to work. VERY disappointed about the skirt though - that was my no 1 pick too. Good update.

Re: 005: Playing Catch Up

Girl, you do know how to work it! I am envious of your ability to rock the heels - I have to keep it to 3 inches. Question - you wear black on the bottom alot, particularly when you do the pants/ - what's your thought about colored bottoms?
2nd question, are there any particular sites you recommend on Ebay - you always seem to get great pieces from there, but I have difficulty finding good pieces there. I think that you should do a fashion guide, particularly of your favorite shoe places!
