I'm also seeing this problem on a tumblr blog and a word press blog I run (two different apps with two different API keys).

I've tested it with three different facebook accounts. For two of the accounts the avatars don't appear, but the name will and I can link out to the appropriate profiles. The third account works fine. All accounts have the same facebook privacy settings.

My avatar will show on other sites with with facebook connect integration not through disqus. When my avatar does show, my avatar URL is this:
http://external.ak.fbcdn.ne...

when my avatar doesn't show through disqus my avatar URL is this:
http://external.ak.fbcdn.ne...

I notice that there are 4 characters at the end of URL before the file extension ex: 4343.jpg. If I take the URL that doesn't work, and swap the last 4 digits(8527) with the last 4 digits of the URL that does work (4343) the image seems to appear fine.
