I've fixed them and also added a note about how to change to the directory you'd like to work in.

I'm not sure about a good place to learn command line basics, but that might make a good blog post in the future. Designers are super smart! If you show them how to use it they'll get comfortable pretty quickly, even if there aren't any pretty buttons :)

Re: Installing Ruby, Rails, and MySQL on OS X Lion

Try installing the gem and see if you still have the error:

gem install activerecord-mysql-adapter

Re: Installing Ruby, Rails, and MySQL on OS X Lion

I'm afraid that won't be possible since MAMP doesn't include Ruby.

Re: Installing Ruby, Rails, and MySQL on OS X Lion

Great tip! For some reason it seems like longer. Does it seem like time is passing by longer or quicker for you? There's instructions on there but you can do:

ruby -e "$(curl -fsS http://gist.github.com/raw/..."

Then: "brew install mysql"

However, I'd recommend reading up a bit on homebrew before you make that commitment.

Re: Rake Tutorial

Try doing:

task :its_me => :environment do
...
end

Re: Asheville and I have Unfinished Business

Well, I know someplace I'll be visiting. If you're using Rails/Rack, one possible solution for that is Rack::Throttle at http://github.com/datagraph.... Thanks a lot for the comments.

Re: On Passwords

I suggest giving the article I linked by Thomas Ptacek a read through. It goes over in much more detail the reasons, as well as history, for using bcrypt to hash your passwords.

Regarding the performance aspect, at least in the Ruby library, you can determine how thorough you want it to be regarding cpu usage. I can't speak for other libraries but I'm sure there are similar options. There are lots of ways to combat a DOS attack, such as rate limiting, that could (and should) be employed.

In the event that the database and code are stolen, arguably, having one less thing to worry about is just fine with me. :) Realistically, both of these scenarios are pretty unlikely, and people are far more inclined to try sql injection first.

Re: World Travel Per Diem

Depending on where you get it, fruit and cheese can be an inexpensive and very well rounded snack.

Re: Plans for the East Coast Road Trip

Make sure you hit corky's in memphis.
