Kenyon St is NOT bikeable from 11th to Georgia for 95% of cyclists. Given that the city can't even clear sidewalks it owns, this isn't surprising, but I'm tired of hearing DDOT brag about stuff it has done so poorly it might as well not have bothered

I think you're on to something. If they only stole wheels off illegally parked cars, they could get caught and there's not a jury in the city that would convict

I saw DC Water at this spot earlier in the week so they haven't ignored it completely, but yeah, not a really great response. Hopefully everyone nearby still has water

DDOT plows the protected lanes because they have a special plow and they like to play with it. They don't do the paint lanes because that's hard and might damage parked cars

I don't know why they're doing it this way, but often they clear the alley then come back with a truck to haul it away. They did it on a block near my house and I've heard reports of the same thing elsewhere

For the high water usage - you'd be surprised at how much water a little a tap drip or slightly running toilet can go through. If no one has found it on their own, call a plumber (I like DH Stevens) and have them go through each unit.

$250 is to DC. You have to file federal but unless you're making a decent income on your reserve account or have other non-condo-fee income you shouldn't owe the feds

You're getting bad advice here. From 18-2104 of the DCMR. Flashing red is the same as a stop sign.

When a RED lens is illuminated with rapid intermittent flashes, drivers of vehicles shall stop before entering the nearest crosswalk at an intersection or at a limit line when marked, or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and the right to proceed shall be subject to the rules applicable after making a stop at a “STOP” sign.

I know DDOT considers themselves exempt from safety regulations during construction, but it would really be nice if there was SOME attempt to keep this stretch ok for cyclists during construction

Before you do a reserve study, you need to understand how it will affect Fannie/Freddie loans. If your study says "You need a new roof in 5 years and it will cost $50K", you'd better have a budget showing you'll have $50k in reserves in 5 years or no one, not a buyer or an owner refinancing, will be able to get a Fannie/Freddie loan. And at that point it doesn't matter if your roof is good for 10 years or you have a good roofer who will do it for $30k. Once it's in the reserve study, it's fact. Of course, NOT doing a reserve study ALSO makes it harder to get Fannie/Freddie loans. Thanks a bunch, collapsed Miami condo!

I've been shopping at the Columbia Heights Giant a few times a week for 10-15 years with the same backpack and was turned away the other day. I tried to call to complain and the woman was very nice but clearly didn't care. She said someone would call back but that hasn't happened. I guess I'll be going to Yes or Whole Foods or Safeway going forward. Glad I live near a bunch of grocery stores
