On the other hand if you are given full disclosure regarding the standards you will be required to live by while at BYU and choose not to. You should be held accountable in one way or another. The nanny state is what is so appalling for many people.

Although some states may have legalized cannabis, it is still ILLEGAL federally. It has nothing to do with treating adults as adults. You are comparing apples to oranges. Last I checked sex between consenting adults, smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee, tea and alcohol (as long as of legal drinking age) is not illegal. That is the difference.
