Can't speak for others but I'd say instant re-blogging is perfectly fine while mass re-blogging is meh - if you like a lot of posts of a certain tumblelog you can like them all but re-blogging 20 posts *in a row* might be a bit too much.

AreMySitesUp isn't free either (unless you can live with VERY basic features and a check interval of one hour instead of 1 minute at Pingdom) and has way less features even in the paid version. I'm fine with paying $ 3 a month for the stats I get -- and besides that it's a nice way to support the Swedish economy :D
