It's also on Netflix. I watched the pilot recently: it's not as crazily inventive as the rest of the series, but incredibly well drawn and paced, with an epic scope. Tartakovsky at his best. (Sorry, Dexter's Lab.)

I'm so relieved that this show has pulled out of the skid (knock wood). I actually think that reestablishing its bonafides as a melodrama has made the drama-drama more effective: refocusing everything on Emily vs. the Graysons instead of the Initiative or whatnot means that I care about Jack for the first time maybe ever -- even if he's destined to be revenge roadkill, I like that he's now the headstrong damsel that Emily is trying to keep out of distress and on a pedestal. And her arc with Father Paul -- revenging him, then doling out forgiveness but demanding penance, then being reminded that she's not *actually* God -- was legit interesting.

Mostly I'm just glad that the show is about Emily again. (That, and Nolan's outfits, which have been reaching new heights.)

I stumbled onto this last night, and enjoyed it way more than I expected. Based on the premise, I thought it was going to be 10 episodes of the daughters *not quite* figuring out what's up, so I liked seeing things hit the fan right away. And eternal motherhood as a curse is a really interesting hook.

As far as continuity catchup goes, you probably just need to pay attention to the most recent season and find out what's up with the current companion. Everything else is basic knowledge (the TARDIS is bigger on the inside; Daleks are evil), something that's going to be rebooted/recast whenever it comes back around (the Master), or is too convoluted to be worth working through unless you're really invested (River).

The important Clara episodes are "Asylum of the Daleks," "The Snowmen" (beware some carnivore garbage bin-ness here), "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS", and "The Name of the Doctor." "Hide" was probably my favorite episode from this last season.

Be wary of this fall's 50th Anniversary special. It's going to be heavy on history and will almost certainly be an extreme example of the show going way, way up its own ass (I say this affectionately and with great eagerness).

My general attitude is Doctor Who:UK::Godzilla:Japan. It takes some suspension of disbelief -- and possibly of good taste -- to enjoy it, but the goofiness is a key part of its charm.

The nice thing about Twitter is that it's easy to ignore the celebs and their wannabe-hangers-on, and only pay attention to people who are awesome.

The hard part for me isn't having celebs *on* Twitter, it's all the NYT/WaPo/Dubuque Herald stories *about* Twitter. They're painful in the way that it's painful to hear people on TV carefully pronounce the word "blog."

If Twitter ever does get totally lame and overblown, we'll all just have to start hanging out at poolfullofbooze.com.

I downloaded this, and then promptly forgot about it, as I seem to do with most iPhone games that aren't on the first page of my home screen. But today, while I was waiting for one of many EXTREMELY late trains on my way home, I remembered it, and happily wasted a bunch of time spitting out triangles and beating the crap out of Orange. Good thing, too -- I was almost bored enough to start reading the book in my bag. Thanks Galcon, for rescuing me from literacy!

I managed to beat Galaxy Man, but every other level I've tried has kicked my ass.

I'm trying to just have fun with the game and not too think too much about what it says about gaming, because what it says kind of pisses me off: "Let's just discard everything we've learned about making games in the last 20 years -- except for named achievements. Those can stay." It's no Pac-Man: Championship Edition, that's for sure.
