I've had a similar, but half-assed, draft for multiple years now based on my experience watching the team at Hearth in NYC from the Chefs table in a post tentatively titled "Agile lessons learned from the kitchen pass". You nailed my thoughts much better then how I could have written!

Re: A Guide to Lean Product Management

Great post, thanks Giff.

You should check out the slides from @aq on how they're doing this over at PaperlessPost - https://speakerdeck.com/u/a...

Re: Developer Conferences in NYC

We've been running the Gotham Ruby Conference (http://goruco.com) here in NYC for the past 5 years. If anyone is looking to organize similar events I'd be happy to walk through lessons learned.

Re: Coding Land

I would definitely encourage working on the real app as opposed to side projects when it comes to learning development. There is so much to be said for having a strong understanding of the domain, but struggling through the code, as opposed to working through a "hello world" style app.

In terms of "getting out of your comfort zone" it sounds like you've already done this by learning to program. Balancing this while running a company can be tough, but I'd recommend spending more time surrounding yourself by other aspiring developers at coworking places around the city so that you're feeding off the energy of others. Definitely feel free to crash on our couch as opposed to throwing on the headphones and working in isolation.

Re: Coding Land

This immersion based approach to learning is a big part of why we encourage projects to be done out of our office at Pivotal. By getting out of your comfort zone and surrounding yourself with others it's amazing what you can do in a short amount of time.

Re: change the ratio

"The Pivotal Labs space has become the stomping ground in the past month and will be until April for people and events surrounding the tech space."

No reason the fun needs to stop in April, we're (Pivotal) not going anywhere! :-)

Re: - This is going to be BIG! - 250 Developers

Let me know how I can help.

Re: Why I’m Reading Blogs Again

Curious as to if this renewed interest in blogs change your position on letter.ly and the paid-content movement?

Re: The Family CRM Service

Check out GroupMe (http://groupme.com) for that.

Re: code(food, bar) / Meetup #4: THE BO SSAM @ Momofuku Ssam Bar

I'm in - looking forward to it.

Re: code(food, bar) / Meetup #4: THE BO SSAM @ Momofuku Ssam Bar

Am I totally missing something, or do you not list the day of reservation anywhere?

Re: Speaking Schedule: Jan 19th @ Pivotal Labs in NYC

What time?

Re: code(food,bar) / First Meetup - Tues, Jan 19th @ Congee Village

I'll be there

Re: Young minds at work at the Ace Hotel

Looks like you found the favorite hangout of the Gilt Groupe development team (group sitting at the table not the guy sleeping on the couch).

Re: Ruby Happy Hour June 3rd

Save a slice for me.

Re: Tech Update: Juggling and Delivering

I'd be curious to hear what cloud solution you used?
