I do miss talking about this stuff with you. I think I agree with you on ALMOST every point. I COMPLETELY agree that "a congregation engaged in true worship needs to have two things; a deepening awareness of God's presence in the individual, and a sense of presence in a community of faith."

Here is where I slightly disagree. I do believe that all those things CAN and DO happen in worship services such as the video we just watched. As you watch that video I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone in the congregation not participating. Now . . . this is very difficult as a worship leader to try and plan for that because there are DEFINITELY times where those three things don't happen to the level that I desire.

The last thing I will add to your thoughts is this. I believe there is a third element to why we gather as a community to worship . . . that God's glory be INCREASED through those expressions of worship . . . after all, true worship is about Him not us. And through that, people who are gathered with the congregation and don't know Him get a glimpse of who He is. For a church like I am at, meeting people where they are at with the musical styles, sounds, and "look" as far as production goes helps to break down some walls that they may have and I believe these things do become a vehicle for that message.

Ok, my response was long as well . . . hope it made sense . . . I was kind of rambling! Miss you bro!!!

Re: Interesting Conversation

totally understand that Jeff . . .
