I don't ascribe to the common American idea that faith is a personal, private matter. …With that introduction, let me say I find the Supreme Court decision bizarre. There is nothing barring me from praying at any and all times, or even meeting with fellow disciples to pray before any important non-religious meeting.

Re: “atheist afterlife” from Toothpaste for Dinner

Ha ha! Prayer was suddenly a clear two-way conversation, remarkably clear. Among other things, I was told to start blogging again, which I did that same day: http://www.blogoneanother.c...

Re: Rachel Held Evans | Sunday Superlatives 10/9/11

"What’s happening on YOUR blog?"

Rachel, I blogged about a recent experience I had hearing God's voice (http://www.blogoneanother.c.... The actual experience seems trivial, but I consider it a training exercise.

I must confess that since we all project our experiences onto other people, I tend to think of hearing God as a normative experience. So I really appreciate your honesty, because you're certainly not alone. Still, I think this is an area where people can be taught (my wife has led small group exercises), but churches seem reluctant to train people in anything overtly supernatural. It's like the attitude is, "If it's supernatural, how can you be trained? You either have it, or you don't." Which I think is bogus, running against the whole way discipleship works.

But I have a nagging feeling that even if people were trained the way I like, there would always be some who would feel worse, not better, because of the pressures of "not getting it." And I'm not content with that, either. Because there is great truth to your statement, "I already know what God wants me to do." And perhaps God is silent (at least in any overtly supernatural way) with you and others to remind us all of this.

Re: I'm sure this church is great and all...

Ha ha! Your design feels very clean and clear. And I really like what you've done setting up a Facebook page. I've pondered between doing that, or making an email newsletter of some kind. But I suppose the choice is not exclusive, so I should just jump in.

One comment about your email subscriptions: I like your "subscribe by email" page. But when I clicked on the dark-gray email icon in the sidebar, I was surprised to find myself directly at Feedburner. I think it would work better for that to also go to your page, where you explain things. Otherwise, it feels abrupt if people click around just to explore. …Also, on your "subscribe by email" page, why not add the Feedburner form and button right there, instead of adding an extra step?

Re: Heaven And Hell

What a great -- and very personal -- tribute to Dio. I'm afraid that "invite your friends to come" has become an easy substitute for training people how to live as missionaries. It's hard, so we take the easy path and lean on the experts to do it for us, "if I can just get people to come."

(I am in no way negating the importance of believers gathering, or of good marketing/messaging/branding to make your identity known.)

Re: Weekly Hit List #18

Is "Sunday's Coming" satire, irony, a prophetic voice, or just plain fun?
