Dallas said residents at Lake Worth do not." Dennis Shingleton is the city's chairperson for sustainable projects. If you are concerned and don't support the sustainable project, then vote for Jon Perry. I believe we need to retain our green space along the lake, not dissect it for developers.

Re: Joomla 1.6 Offers New Features for Designers & Admins

Joomla is a powerful CMS tool and developed websites with it before Wordpress. What draws me to Wordpress is two important facets.

First, Wordpress has a ton of plugins. They cannot be listed at Wordpress.org unless they are for free. Are there paid plugins I use? Yes, but the vast majority are free. Joomla on the other hand is haphazard at best. A mixture of paid and free, and often free is not free. It doesn't have the control that Wordpress has. I like too that at Wordpress you can vote on whether a plugin works or not; leave comments.

Second, for the average business, I can teach them how to manage their Wordpress blog; albeit online through the Wordpress administration panel or through third party off line tool editors like Quamana, ScribeFire Blog Editor, Ecto, etc. Joomla is much more complicated and small businesses don't like complicated.

Joomla is a bridesmaid, not the bride. They are very late to the game, where Wordpress and Drupal have a substantial footing. Without a repository and control like wordpress.org, I don't see it happening widespread. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Re: Kindle 3 Is the Best-Selling Product in Amazon History

We have four of them in the family. From my vantage, the average age there was between 35 and 45. Many came from all over the US, as well as Canada and Europe. Overall the people I spoke with were very happy that others just want government to tone it down and get something done.

Re: Who Cared About the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear? I use an Android device on Sprint's 3g/4g networks. 4g was not working and 3g was god awful slow. I wasn't going to miss watching the rally by screwing around with my phone, tweeting and posting pix for hours. I think some people made posting a full time gig at the rally.

Re: Bigger than Beck's: Stewart's rally eclipses Fox News pundit's effort

If you knew what you were talking about, it would be valid. Never had I gathered with so many people. I am a Libertarian, whose goal is fiscal responsibility with social tolerance. A lot of the people there shared this view. I was surprised that the average age was mid-30s to early 40s. People from all over came to the rally. It was amazing!

Re: If you could travel back in time to 1995 knowing everything you know now, what web site would you launch and why?

I remember it well. It depends on your business. Do you have a restaurant with a $15 average ticket? Perhaps you own a furniture store with an average ticket of $4000. Risk plays a huge element in credit card processing. The processor holds the risk if the merchant doesn't have the funds to cover a chargeback.

No our terminal placement program doesn't add additional basis points or fees. Our focus is keeping customers for life.

Yes we do help merchants become PCI compliant because it is required. Yes, there is a gateway fee. Virtual Terminals are $10 per month, for websites they are normally $15. Would you disparage a nominal licensing fee to a company that has to certify with the major card types, keep up security to prevent hackers or to serve your needs when you have an issue with a shopping cart?

Fortunately, there are good companies out there that don't take advantage of people. Our testimonials and customers have told us we have integrity. Any costs to a merchant are discussed up front. No fine print.

If you or another reader of this post would like additional information, please contact us at 877.577.3779, option 1.

Re: Google Tablet: Google and HTC To Launch Apple iSlate Rival [RUMOR]

First to market often kicks the butt of best to market. The longer Apple waits, the greater the opportunity for competitors. Speed to market, speed to market, speed to market.

The continuation of companies to reduce the number of hardware pieces we have to carry (e.g. phone, mp3 player, computer, reader, etc.), the greater the likelihood of their success. Consolidation of hardware into one platform I believe is key in the new decade.

Re: Microsoft’s Windows Mobile Strategy: Too Much, Too Late?

Windows Mobile using the HTC has allowed me to leave my laptop behind. This helps me stay productive while I am on the road.

Since my mobile needs are taken care of by my phone, instead of buying a new Windows laptop this year, I purchased my first Mac. Once you've had Mac, you'll never go back.

Re: The Facebook Movie: Its Writer Speaks

I think a movie about Bill Gates would be more powerful. Why banks want you to swipe.

Michael,

Thank you for your comments. When we onboard a merchant, we provide them with a break-even point between PIN debit and swiped debit. Since our PIN debit fees are based on average transaction, our pricing is far below the $0.90 you stated above. We do not have a one size fits all. Our break-even is closer to an average transaction of $25.

As for PIN pads, the triple DES requirement has been out for a few years. However, some merchant services companies sold what they had in stock, rather than the newer versions. All of the new PIN pads and terminals are tamper resistant. If the shell is opened, the PIN pad and terminal fail to operate.

To recap, the debit vs swiped fees are dependent on the merchant services company providing the service. Yes, there could be major gaps in pricing, but if there are, the merchant should evaluate other merchant services companies before signing an agreement.

For the past three years or so, PCI compliant Triple DES PIN pads have been on the market. One of the primary reasons they have moved to the new technology is because of skimming. The new PIN pads, like new terminals, are tamper resistant and eliminate skimming from the equation.

Lastly, PIN-based debits are not subject to chargebacks and PIN debit transactions cannot be downgraded.
