It discouraged me from using the service. I also commented on how they should have made a better mobile version of their website for non iphone users.

I also wrote and commented about Jaiku and what it promised but that failed to get enough users to be a serious contender.

I see quite a few Europeans playing with plurk at the moment. Europe is a fragmented market with many languages and many interesting services as you point out in your post.

If Facebook is anything to go by then we may have to wait at least another year or two before twitter becomes anything more than a play toy for people like you and those those that we converse with on a regular basis.

Re: What Are You Doing Right Now?

People have not just stopped saying what they re doing. They have also stopped conversing in the same way they used to. Most conversations are no more than two or three messages long now as people worry more about productivity than friendships.

That's because people see twitter as a productivity tool and this is particularly evident in cities like London. Today for example a lot of English twitter users had ttl in their posts. They were having a wine tasting session and whilst they did send a big volume of tweets they spent very little of that time actually conversing with those on twitter.

I feel that there is a movement away from twitter and certain social media at the moment. As a result it's de-valuing some of these social networks.

Re: Private: Twitter Apps Can Only Grow so Far

Whilst out on a walk today I was thinking about twitter and how it behaves. A year and a half ago they were struggling with the amounts of tweets people were both sending and receiving. They changed many things around and for a company that has been around for as long as they have (in startup terms) they have done very little to personaly improve the usability of their site. In fact since I started using twitter the biggest change is the replies arrow to avoid typing a name.

Where this will hurt them most is on mobile devices. If you're at a desk you can visit the page and although not as convenient it's not that much of a hinderance. Come to mobile devices though and you see how bad it gets. Several times recently I have hit the api limit on mobile 3rd party apps. As a result I simply didn't tweet as much as I would.

I am moving towards friendfeed, more intersted in more dynamic websites than twitter.

Scoble was speaking about the new twitter for friendfeed api to import friends and how, due to his vast number of followers he was running into problems.

As a side note I must admit to skimming through the post as I am not a developer.

Re: High Definition Pleasure

Makes a change from the geeky stuff I usually write about :-)

Re: Travian, an online game

Yeah you did.

Re: Travian, an online game

Except that I haven't played it in months by now.

Re: Geneva Tweetup during the LIFT Conference - Who’s Interested?

Glad you like it :-), I'll spend time looking at yours, watching a documentary at the moment.

Re: Posting and Pulling Comments From FriendFeed

yep, using it already :-)

Re: Counting follower mass by absolute tweet number

What makes this idea interesting is that those that attract twitter users get a higher rating :-). That feeling is made even nicer when you realise you have similar interests to people you had not met yet.

Now the tweetups and other meetings often feel like a formality, nothing fun, nothing innovative. That is not to say that I don't like tuttle. In fact I do like tuttle because there you still have that young entrepreunerial spirit, those innovators and thinkers. There's a lot to be gained from the tuttle meetups. That's a concept that works really well in my eyes.

I'm not leaving twitter, I'm just taking a holiday, a leave of absence until I can look at the twitter timeline without the event I dislike appearing in the timeline.

Re: Latitude

I like it, had it running for a day now, did mistake me for being in Amsterdam and then London though... now it's correct again.

Re: louisgray.com: Eight Forms of Social Networking Depression: Are You Suffering?

I will have to read this but watching a documentary at the moment. When you blog about something original then you will encourage people to read your blog.

The second problem is that whilst the social media is meant to be about real people using technology to communicate most of the time it's not. We see a lot of people blog, twitter, use facebook and other platform to promote their work without taking the time to see what people have been up to. As a result there is an echo rather than a discourse. By that I mean that if people were actively reading and thinking about what others were saying then the social media would be more inviting.
