With the world going through such a massive paradigm shift, driven by technology, communications and the market economy, we're more connected than ever before yet I can almost smell the alienation in the air: younger and younger kids struggling with the pressures of social media, sleep-deprived adults bathing in the blue light of their smart phones, almost any social interaction IRL accompanied by the silent ping of notifications and status updates. I could go on. For me, Munch paints raw emotion. Art, like writing (or blogging!), is important even if it doesn't provide concrete answers. It's the process that counts. That moves things forward.

Re: The Best Mixer for Podcasting

Hi Jesse,
I ditched the mixer about 2 years ago after changing my workflow. Now I am just using the Zoom h6 alongside my dbx 286s as it has the ability to split channels that I need for podcasting: 1 for my voice in studio, 1 for skype audio on a separate track.

As far as I can remember the Soundcraft doesn't have multiple mono outs so this would be tricky. Without the mixer, I can't reproduce what you're trying to do. Sorry.

*Jon Buscall, PhD*
Moondog Marketing & Media AB
Twitter: @jonbuscall
Email: jon@moondogmarketing.com
Skype: jonbuscall
www.moondogmarketing.com
Tel: +46 76 863 72 85

Re: Does Inbound Marketing Still Work?

I think it's a super difficult one. It all comes down to the quality of the work. Some business blogs I see are updated two or three times a week with well researched, really useful content. It could be a podcast, a training video, a curation piece, etc. Other business blogs write what I would call "pillar content" that is phenomenally detailed, almost verging on ebook length. Kind of definitive guides. These can go on to yield long term results both in terms of SEO and lead generation.

It's always going to come down to ROI, which will only be clear if metrics are put in place to measure the effectiveness of the time put into creating content and results gained. We all have to play around and measure to see what works for us. At Moondog, the podcasts really have long term value. They bring in people, generate contacts and leads but written blogs tend to get picked up on social.

If we had resources I'd put more into content creation. Say, three posts a week. But as of today, 1-2 pieces yields a good ROI.

All the very best, Jon

*Jon Buscall, PhD*
Moondog Marketing & Media AB
Twitter: @jonbuscall
Email: jon@moondogmarketing.com
Skype: jonbuscall
www.moondogmarketing.com
Tel: +46 76 863 72 85

Re:

It might just be that the "right" people are finding you now. I'd also want to know if unique visitors were growing or repeat traffic was down ? There are so many levels to delve into, which I am sure you guys are doing.

Thanks for sharing this, though. I think it's important that those of us who work with marketing share the downs with the ups; it's part of pushing the conversation forwards and trying to find ways to succeed together. I was particularly fascinated by your discussion of Periscope and Meerkat. Personally, I've been looking at the ANGL app for live streaming. The only draw back is that streams fade away after a while. You can have them stay on longer if people "echo" (i.e. like) them. Works on iPhone and even Android. I've found that Meerkat and Periscope aren't as established on the Android platform yet.

Curious to see how you continue with these apps. As of yet, I'm a bit uncomfortable having a camera on my whilst I am podcasting.

Re: Our 8th feature in 8 weeks: due times

Same here from Sweden !!!

Re: Facebook Introduces Call-to-Action Buttons

It's a nice touch from Facebook and you can see that they're gearing up for increased commercial use in 2015; however, many of our customers are increasingly ambivalent about FB given that they can't reach the audience they've built up with paying to boost posts. Sure, many are having to accept that FB is now a paid channel but we're seeing a lot friction too.

Re: The Three Ss of Technical SEO Explained

Nicely put ! I do think that speed is an incredibly important factor. One of the best reasons to keep plugins to a minimum on Wordpress!

We always include speed testing as part of the SWOT analysis for customers; it's surprising how many customers will tolerate slower load page times on their own sites because they *know* what's coming but will click away in irritation on other sites.

Right now, the layperson doesn't really have a clue what is acceptable and what's not so it can actually be hard to have this discussion. But posts like this really help! It's up to all of us in the industry to dispel the SEO tweak-the-code myths of days gone by. We still get customers asking us to "fine tune the code to appear at the top of google". Funnily enough they'll pay for that but are more wary of investing in outsourced content creation.

Re: The Rode Procaster or Podcaster ? The great thing about the DBX is that it gives you that extra warmth that you get, say, on radio broadcasts, even with a dynamic mic. The Focusrite also makes it easy to record straight into your Mac using your favourite DAW. My choice is Adobe Audition.

The important thing to remember however is that it's not kit that makes you a great podcaster; it's producing a show that's tightly focused on your target audience.

Re: David Keene – Google!

Thanks Jaclyn.
