The spoiler tab has some stuff that is on the changelog, but not all of it. It would be super cool if you moved over to cubetutor with this thing, though I don't know if it will have all the tools you need.

Re: Radiator Blog: Game engine review roundup

yeah, I took a look at it, but it uses its own scripting language, which is half lua / half python. Dunno if I can trust a one off scripting thing.

It does look cool outside of that one issue tho, but that one issue means I will probably never use it.

Re: Snake Intuition (Denis K)

BOLD STATEMENT.

Re: Colorscope (Jacob Buczynski)

check it out man: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... ... years of history!

also, some more discussion here: http://makega.me/t/a-diary-...

Re: Colorscope (Jacob Buczynski)

"more a toy then a game" self game policing :D could also say it is more an instrument than a game. I just wanted to clarify, the refund on paid apps isn't quite free, the devs have to cover the 30% android fee, so it would cost us ~1.50 ish for each player that trials it that way. Luckily we have only had one refund on the app, so we aren't taking a bath there, but we could. I think next time we are probably going to go with a free download in the store with an in app purchase to unlock the full game.

Re: Hacky Sim (jonbro)

wanted to do the full california games, but couldn't figure out any of them except this one. I mess around with my pricing, setting it high, setting it low. I put my stuff on sale, or give it away for free.

I also buy games on sales. I know the drive that says "I wouldn't buy this otherwise". What I think was most frustrating about this to me is we are talking about things that were already .99 - 5.99, which strikes me as already a sale price. If you can't justify buying for that much, what can you justify for? Is it maybe not the price of the game itself, but instead the perceived value that you are getting in the purchase (i.e. I am going to have 2.99 of fun for only .99? sign me up!!!).

Mike, I know that selling one item is never going to cover the cost of development, and figuring out the optimal price point is totally difficult. You probably know better than me what people will be willing to pay, but in my experience is pricing confusing. Even the idea that sales will go up as the price approaches 0 doesn't ring true to me. In the absence of marketing (which my thing is, it is way old, and this is the first time that I have stuck it into these circles), the random buys that you get don't really map to anything in reality.

I have tried to determine price based on how much entertainment people would get out of a game, and then think about how much I am willing to pay for that much entertainment. I have tried to determine price by thinking about how dedicated to the idea of the app people would be.

I recognize that it is cool for everyone to have access to what I make. It would be awesome if I could give away everything I make, and somehow still put food in my mouth. I hope those people can also recognize how I would be frustrated when they tell me that it isn't worth anything to them, but they still want it. I hope in the future that we are all able to get what we want, the ability to make games, and the ability to play them.

Re: Anti-Sale Mentality Ignites As ‘Because We May’ Discounts Launch

Do you think that everyone should be entitled to play games, even if the amount of money the public is willing to pay for them is below the cost of making them? Do you think that games should always eventually end up free, even the creator is still alive?

How financially successful were indie developers before bundles? Well, I remember paying 5 dollars for the first episode of doom on floppies, and the same with one must fall 2097, and that was just for the demo! These indies have gone on to be quite successful, and were absolutely indies at that time.

Re: Free Unity for Android and iOS

Does this mean an ongoing license that is free?! The fact that it isn't on a grid is great too, that is one of the things that bugs me out about most 2d minecraft-alikes.

Re: What Dear Esther Is Not... - What Games Are

I have not played dear esther, but I just recently played proteus, and I hope there is enough overlap to be able to use it as a point of commentary. While I am not sure if it counts as a game, I would like to address the mixing.

It seems that you are closing the definition of game to only objects which allow you to cause changes within the system. Changes on objects external to the system (e.g. the players emotional state) don't count as interactions. I can understand this, as it would really break the definition of game, and start letting in plays, and tv shows, and artworks.

However, I think that proteus learned a ton from games, and was better for it. The WASD + mouse, the first person perspective, the generative landscape, the extreme abstraction, and the specific forms of abstraction (pixel art) are all forms that were perfected by games. Saying that this new form shouldn't mix with games would have closed down all those avenues for expression.

The opposite direction is really interesting as well. While games could certainly borrow just as much from any other art form, the fact that this new thing already uses so many things from games makes the transition more malleable. While you could go to the same sources as proteus did to elicit similar player emotions as proteus, why not just go to the source that has already digested and solved and repackaged into a familiar format.

I could be misunderstanding your sentence "But I think the folks trying to mix this and game are doing both a disservice". This and game have already mixed, and I think they are both stronger for it.

Re: ofxUI – New GUI addon for your openFrameworks projects [openFrameworks]

Holy dang this is amazing looking.
