You know, how about providing the pre-k education for yourself instead of relying on tax payers to pay for it. It is called reading to your children and teaching them the ABC's and 123's. I am plenty sick and tired of parents pawning off their kids education to the State.

Hey Richard, I don't which publication you are reading and writing about, but the COurier Herald has been very fair and balanced when it comes to opinion. I know editor Kevin Hanson presents his left wing view. They also have John Carlson on the right. And there was an opinion guy named Brian Beckley (I think) who was a left wing extremist. Plus, they allow letters from both sides of the political spectrum. The Courier Herald, despite having a very user unfriendly, crappy website, is very balanced. And I am a very conservative guy. So this tells me that you are a left wing extremist that only wants the media to spout your views. Very sad.

We live in a free society. So if people want to be stupid and risk their lives, so be it. What govt should do is make them sing waivers saying they may not get rescued and require them to have locator beacons attached to their body. Let them climb but we should not go all out to rescue them.

hey shd64, why do you think the insurance companies have increased thier rates? The cost of medical has risen and GOVERNMENT interference like rules and regulations have forced them to raise their rates. It is Economics 101. When govr forces a medical insurance company to accept pre-existing conditions, portability and other liberal friendly conditions, it is the average customer that will pay for that. So, when an AIDS patient or a female who is 3 months pregnant gets medical insurance, the insurance company cannot say no, so they pass the costs onto other customers. It is Economics 101. I will point fingers because it is Democrats(especially in this State), that have set up stupid rules like that.

The role of local government is simple; public safety, make sure the roads are paved and make sure people can get water and flush their toilets. Everything else is just fluff. So, cut all the fluff before you cut the essentials of local government.

Grouchy- In the original letter, there is no mention of President Obama or his race. It seems that you are the bigot that introduces race. As far as specifics for police using thier guns for self defense; there are 2 incidents in the Seattle Tacoma area in one day (Des Moines and Lacey on Saturday Dec 19th), so I think it is correct there are 1000's of officers across this country that use their weapon in self defense without having their weapons pointed in every direction at once. So, grouchy, you must have your head in the sand in regards to news because police shootings occur every single day in this country.

As far as puncuation of the letter, I would rather read a letter with one or two puncuation mistakes than a letter whose letter writer has no idea that you can have more than one paragraph in a letter to the editor. Sorry grouchy, you lost this argument due to you bigotry and ignorance.

At what cost, Ron? Will you be happy if insurance companies operate at a loss? To get everything you want is going to cost money, and lots of it. And the tax payers will foot the bill. Why should I help pay for Bill Gates' medical costs? Why should I pay for the medical costs of illegal aliens? How about we try getting government out of the medical and insurance business? Enact tort reform. These steps will reduce medical costs. Then, everybody can afford their own medical bills or medical insurance.

So Dan Scribner. If a person is at Ft Hood and hears shots, does he need it pointed in all directions to address the threat? No, he doesn't. He/she goes to where the shots are being fired. You obviously have had no experience in firearms be cause you have a very lame reason why people don't need weapons. No one had a weapon because they weren't allowed to have a weapon and 13 people died. If just one or two of those people had a concealed weapon, they could have eliminated the treat. I hate stupid people.
