One small suggestion if you don't mind... this post would be much easier to follow and use if you included a comment with the name of the file at the top of each piece of code. And if you also include a link to a working project in a GitHub repository, that would be even better. Thanks again for sharing!

Re: Playdominion.com Reputation Review

PlayDominion[dot]com has been pretty buggy since they became available. On top of that, they have recently removed capability for a feature that I paid them for. I purchased all the expansions in 2014, and that was supposed to allow me to play those decks online indefinitely. However, they have moved to a subscription model, where my purchase doesn't do much for me. And the worst is, they broke most of my functionality (I'm guessing intentionally); I can no longer make my own decks or even save decks. Full random mode is my only option, I can't even weight the choice between decks.

Re: http://jsorge.net/post/24823442133

Great post, Jared! Will pray that God completes the healing and directs you clearly.

As for those I know who are also dealing with health issues who could really use help and prayers, my cousin Curt and his wife Bonita have been dealing with breast cancer again. Please go here to read more and/or donate toward Bonita and other women like her: http://twopinkribbons.com/

Curt actually lost his mom to breast cancer when she was still pretty young, and Bonita beat breast cancer ten years ago, and now has breast cancer again. However, the form of breast cancer she has now is unrelated to the first breast cancer and that almost never happens - on par with getting struck by lightning twice. In addition, Curt's oldest kid who was born healthy and very bright became ill at a young age and has been significantly developmentally handicapped since that time. Curt is a Christian performer (magician - http://magicurt.com/2010/ab... ) and continues to work to glorify God and spread the gospel through his ministry, life, and testimony despite the incredible difficulty he and his family have faced.

Re: Video blog – unboxing my new light-weight guitar!

That's exciting! We've had the technology for that for quite a while, cool that some company finally took advantage of it and made a polyphonic tuner! When I saw the title, I was picturing some kind of mechanism to actually turn the knobs on your guitar automatically as well. Guess that's the next step, though most musicians probably wouldn't want to have their instrument modded. :D

Re: Should your Church musicians be paid?

Feel bad dropping a comment here without reading everything, but my first thought when I saw the title is that it seems like this question could apply equally to pastors, though their role has grown way beyond what it might be otherwise with things like hospital visits, etc. But if we're fine paying pastors, I don't see why we wouldn't be fine paying musicians. :o)

Re: What if Starbucks Marketed Like a Church?

Is that sign done in Papyrus?! And of course they have a practice on Sunday mornings to go over the songs for that day. But this is great because you can be involved without giving up a weekday evening every week.

Re: Congrats To Rebecca St James – Engaged to be Married!

Wow, congrats to RSJ! :) I'd write more about Christmas gifts, but I'm about to hit the road for 15 hours of driving and I'd better get to it...

Re: Halloween?

I tend to agree with RawkAlways on this one... I'll probably be going to at least two Halloween parties this year, one of them that's a 1920's speakeasy themed anniversary party for one of the pastors at our church. My only problem is finding a costume on short notice as I'd been planning to be out of town but things ended up working out differently.

Are you gonna chime in on this one, Vicky? :o)

Re: A Cooking Video-Blog From Me!

Really? I'd enjoyed this video before, but especially appreciated hearing your perspective on it, Vicky.

I do think that our identity can get so caught up in our creativity that it can stifle any further efforts. I guess Elizabeth hints at that.

As to your last question, I heard one person say that to get out of writer's block you need only to lower your standards. Don't worry about what's coming out on the page. Write enough, and something interesting is sure to come out. And leave the editing for later.

Re: Technology, friend or foe?

Wow, your “shy introvert” paragraph is some of the best writing I've seen in a while. Thanks for being so incredibly open with us!

I don't think social media is a negative thing for me overall. I've been able to use it to stay connected with many more friends than I would otherwise be able to. Twitter is for family and a smaller circle of friends, and Facebook is for a much larger group of friends. Because of the asynchronous nature, it also works well for sharing experiences with friends while traveling in time zones which would make it more difficult to find times to talk on the phone or video conference.

That said, I had Internet service disconnected while I was traveling recently and did enjoy being less tied to my phone. And being offline for a day or two does feel strange, though you certainly get used to it if you allow yourself the time.

There certainly needs to be a balance between the time spent on the computer and off of it, and there was a time in my life where I spent too much of my time connecting to friends on Facebook rather than spending real face time. Granted, that was at a time in my life when I was distant from many friends and family and FB allowed a sort of connection that would not have been otherwise possible.

As to an online self being the true you, I don't think that's possible. You can try to get a close approximation, and opening up like you have in this post is the closest thing you'll get to that. However there will always be components of yourself that just can't be expressed through anything other than the full-blown in-person life. One reason for that is so much of our communication (whether for good or for bad) is non-verbal. We can try to express those things through emoticons, but that's a very poor substitute. And other times when we'd rather not share more than the spoken word, it's very easy to simply type what we'd like to share and leave the non-verbal communication unsaid. And we can't share our best moments without bragging, and we wouldn't care to share our worst moments.

As to your question about holding back what we share in our online persona, that can be done (though perhaps not quite as effectively) even in person. We're constantly deciding how much of ourselves to share with any given person or group, and I think that's completely natural as long as it doesn't go too far.

Friend or foe? I'd say technology is one of those friends who has a lot of good sides but who can sometimes get out of hand. Just keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't cause trouble, and it can be a great relationship. :D

Re: Honesty is the best policy?

I'm with you. Another great post; thanks, Vicky!

It seems like some churches work to make Christ attractive, and others work to make Him unattractive (perhaps in reaction to the seeker-sensitive thing), and both seem equally out of balance. We shouldn't need to work to make Him anything other than who He is.

Re: The beauty of spontaneity

I love this post; great pics and thoughts! You brought a big smile to my face.

The spontaneous and well-planned parts of me are often at odds as they are both pretty strong components of my nature. Regarding technology and work, the planning part often wins out, but when traveling, spontaneity wins. During my trip last month, probably the most spontaneous thing I did was driving around the mountains with a new friend (who I'd just met on the bus into town). Her cousin drove us up to a small village in the Andes to meet their family. On the way back down, her family filled up the cab of the pickup and the two of us bounced around in the back while the driver careened his way down the curvy mountain road. Once back to the town of Banos, we said goodbye to her family and visited a couple waterfalls together and then parted ways as she had to get back to her university.

Re: Twitter Is A Community—Why Most Artists, Authors, Pastors & Celebrities Don’t Get It

Great post, Randy! I'm glad that's not the case!

I was going to offer some encouragement in the form of some more comments made yesterday by my little sister JoyAnna. She said your voice is lots better than lots of other recording artists (but she doesn't want to say their names so they don't feel bad). She also likes that your songs make sense and that you love Jesus.

So far as my job, there are definitely days I'd rather be doing something else.
