It would have been very interesting to see Tumblr evolve independently instead of being sold to Yahoo. At the time though, Tumblr had a massive infrastructure burn, no revenue or revenue plan, and probably wasn't in a position to continue on independently. An interesting takeaway that you didn't discuss above was the lack of a business model or revenue plan. USV always liked to say that businesses gravitate to a native business model after scaling. This never happened for Tumblr and was definitely among its biggest issues.

Based on the tape I watched (Michigan State, Stanford and a few others), I had a very similar take as Judge. I'm not nearly as impressed as PFF seems to be. I'd rather have Vernon Butler from Louisiana Tech as a 3-technique.

Shopify's extremely successful IPO and Etsy's Q1 miss in their first public quarter are both worth mentioning in the Other news section. With Shopify up 70%+ over their IPO price and Etsy down ~ 25% since earnings, Shopify has already eclipsed Etsy's valuation. It's uncommon for a SAAS business to be valued higher than a 'comparable' marketplace, so the relative valuation between Shopify and Etsy is particularly interesting. Absolutely love the Game of Thrones theme to this blog Scot!

The filet was a real let down. Houston's filet is infinitely better. However, the gnocchi with cheese was absolutely sensational. I could have eaten 2 servings myself for the whole meal. The ice cream for dessert just wasn't good.

He was considered too small and not quite athletic enough coming out of college, though plenty of analysts and scouts were very high on him, considering him to be overlooked like Lavonte David was a couple years prior (though David is an elite athlete).

Your company's margin structure below the gross profit line is likely orders of magnitude more efficient than Spotify, and your company is likely not valued at an astronomical multiple to revenue. Additionally, your suppliers likely don't have a track record of suing their 'partners' into bankruptcy.

Mark Barron was fantastic in week 1. He made a game saving play to prevent a touchdown catch that showed real athleticism.

Melvin Ingram is going to be truly special. His feel for the game, particularly for a rookie, is incredible. He's always around the ball making plays, like his hit that caused a fumble in week 1. He has everything to become an elite pass rusher - a powerful bull rush that can knock over right tackles, as well as the speed and ability to bend the corner past them too. Ingram will wind up being better than Merriman during the lights out days.

To answer Orangeflux: Derek Wolfe looked fantastic, and a steal for a second round pick. He was able to generate a lot of pressure and consistently get into the backfield.

Our gross profit is the amount of revenue we retain after paying an agreed upon percentage of the purchase price to the featured merchant." I didn't know before the filing that Groupon's revenue includes the retailer's take. From that perspective, it's almost more of a gross merchandise sales number, which is hardly the traditional way of treating revenue. eBay doesn't report GMS/GMV as revenue. This is closer to the way Google treats TAC for Adsense, except that Groupon still has significant additional marketing expense.
